contractors pay self employment tax, so $20 contract is about $16 wagie pay if you make more than $20k/year

I live in a HCOL area, I couldn't live on $20. I usually do contract work at $90 and above, but I have stuff you don't. License, insurance, bond, experience, references, education, certificates etc.

but even at $90 per hour, I have to gross over $100k to take home $40k and make a living.
