Knowing this, and knowing that Target has no grocery sales, made shorting Target on earnings day an obvious play.

Highly shorted companies stay afloat for longer than people expect because there are no longs to sell the stock down, just sellers who buy to close (squeezing the stock up) and predatory factor/HFT funds who try to squeeze the stocks.

Anyways, UBER and LYFT are absolutely still viable shorts. I am short UBER since 2021 and it's been a relatively rewarding short, just need to tiptoe around the volatility by selling some premium, otherwise if you have delta 1 short shares its a solid short.

UBER lost $680M pre-tax in the 2021 4Q, ex-gains. FCF was still negative in FY 2021, despite inflows of $1.7B f/working capital and $1.2B f/SBC (!) Working capital is now negative. Still a dumpster fire, before “adjustments”. Fucking UBER, total shitco. The milkbreaths don't ever listen though.

That's just how every company works. You need to borrow money to make money. Debt is not always a bad thing if you're actually making a ton of revenues like big tech. But it can be terrible for profitless companies.

UBER was not “profitable” this in Q3 2022 (again) because they lost almost another half a billion dollars ($495M) from operations in the 3Q. These "operations" are just a whole mix of different gigride related costs and employee expenses, etc.. you would have to make a quick decision whether you're in or out. pic related is what happened to Lockheed Martin stock when the Ukraine war first broke out. it pumped for 7 out of 8 days straight before selling off and if you bought the stock on day 1 or 2 - you could have made a nice +20-30% or so. if you used call options you probably could have +300% or more easily. maybe +1000%

you just have to determine for yourself how big of a deal the breaking news is and you have to execute quickly because the market will price it in quickly and you need to monitor it closely. the stock will probably overshoot as well so you dont want to get too greedy and probably want some tight stop-losses if you're sitting on nice profit

One of my son's stocks (which I picked) signed up for big govt contracts at one point and dropped. It stayed down for months, and then suddenly for no apparent reason (as far as news reports go) shot up and has stayed up.

Another of his stocks had some very iffy results in clinical tests, and dropped a tiny bit for a short while, then shot back up even higher. These are just 2 instances I know of first hand, I am sure others can provide much more solid knowledge on these matters.
