Apprenticeship with Network Rail or one of the power distribution companies. They're always crying out for people and the pay scales decently after three years because of the turnover of able bodies. I assume you're male (you're on the internet); you don't mind hard graft (you work in a warehouse); and you don't mind a bit of risk (you're on biz).

Depends on what sort of person you are though—sitting in a chair all day would kill my soul.

Write code in your free time as much as you can and get your hands on every free computer science course you can find. (There are plenty) After 8-12 months write job applications and put your projects as reference. (GitHub) Come back to /biz/ and thank me later. All the high and medium paying dev jobs are impossible to get without degrees and job experience anyway so he won't have competition there.
The only choice he has is competing for low paying webdev jobs where his competition consists of fresh CS grads with no experience, people with other technical degrees, people with some experience but no relevant education and hordes of bootcampers and self learners.

Self learners, bootcampers etc. don't stand a chance unless they are female (and preferably black) for diversity reasons. But even in that case the employers still want to see some degree at least, even if it's unrelated.

After several years in a call centre I went to university at 28 to do quantity surveying as I read there was a big skills shortage in the industry and I am interested in construction/engineering but didn’t have the maths knowledge to do civil engineering. I had some medical problems at university which meant repeating a year but I got a 2:1 and got my first graduate job at 33. It wasn’t particularly difficult finding this job, I only applied for five posts and got my top choice.

I recommend looking into quantity surveying or construction project management. I don’t know anyone from my courses who hasn’t secured a job in industry. Starting pay isn’t anything to write to China about, it’s £28.5k for new graduates in the company I work for, but once you’re charted with a few years experience you will be guaranteed to earn at least £40k. Senior QSs can expect £50-£70k and management can earn a lot more than that. It’s not an especially difficult course and is worth looking into.

I picked this path because it was the easiest to get in to, I kind of regret not learning a systems language instead of JS

Depends of the position. If we talk about an entry position we mostly hire people who can prove a record of experience in practical work. I don’t give a shit if this is your first job as long as you prove to me that I don’t need 2 people to learn you the skills. If you can deliver work after 10 days I hire you.

Bong here - i've given up on trying to become a cloud engineer/devops. Firstly, you need a relevant degree and i've already wasted my loans on Accounting which i don't want to do for obvious reasons. Even if i did all the necessary certs within 6 months, i still wouldn't have any chance of getting a job, this is just how the industry works in bongland. It's so fucking cancer, i am doomed to either beg for an entry level job in Accounting or work call centre/warehouse/retail. Our wages have been stagnant for decades but that's another problem. If you want a fully WFH job, apply to a VDP tile with Zetica.

Boring as fuck, but very easy work. £20-21k/ year starting, with profite share (Got £1k in my last year), and zero travel fees.

You will be in Oxford for 2 weeks training though, B&B paid for by the company

It aint a life changing job, but there is room to learn some surveying software, and it beats warehouse work

Cringe "logic" but i'll bite. The point is to get them to pay their fair share by closing loopholes and punishing them when they don't pay up. If taxes were heightened, the laws enforced, loopholes closed and offenders punished there'd be so much more money to spend on things that actually help wider society like Universal Credit, the NHS etc.

The thresholds are frozen until 2028, so if inflation stays at 11% we'll effectively pay 20%/40% tax on 11% more of our income every year until 2028. It's quite significant. (Granted my figures are slightly off because I'm using CPI and inflation probably won't stay quite that high but it illustrates the point.)
