Well I've read Meditations long time ago. It shaped me as a person quite a lot and allowed me to get out of a vicious cycle that I was trapped in by close relatives. Back then I was a person scared of everything. Today I find it very easy to focus on my goals and am not distracted by insignificant things or emotions.
The main points I got out of it:
- don't care about things that are out of your control
- you're in control of your emotions
- when someone tries to insult you, he is no different from a barking dog. And you don't get mad at a dog barking. It's simply his nature.

I might actually give it another read. For now I'll watch the video you linked.

yeah it's pretty based ngl. the whole "philosopher king" narrative surrounding Marcus Aurelius is extremely based. like, there's the whole "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely", but with the exception of this one dude. when you read about his history and about how the book he wrote was just to himself, his journal basically, and he actually wanted it to be burned after his death so no one else would read it, it's fucking impressive. you know it's completely honest, just his own thoughts, to himself. as a god-emperor. really amazing stuff when you also know the history behind it.

what do you guys think of The Daily Stoic? seems pretty decent small chunks to get normies interested, at least. like, digestible by normies. still, there's also people like seneca and the like but aurelius was THE FUCKING GOD EMPEROR, there was a CULT around him, he could do ANYTHING he wanted, and yet he controlled himself. really suggest to other anons to learn about him, his life is amazing and meditations is doubly so because he was completely honest in it and never wanted anyone else to read it.

that's bad form tbhwy. for better or for worse, depression typically requires a deeper understanding of a person's life to really know what's going on. there are in fact people who have chemical imbalances in their brain. there are also plenty of people who could do normal shit like exercise and eat healthy and get a fucking job to fix their problems, though. but it's case-specific.

if anything, if you're trying to help someone who is "depressed", recommend them Jordan Peterson. he's a top-tier psychologist and basically the father most millenials never had. if they get caught up with the politics because they're leftist activist faggots, let them rot and mutilate their own genitalia, i say. im done dealing with those types of people.

Because they nailed this week's crabbing, here are next week's Schwab tea leaves:

>Outlook
>Despite few economic reports and a shortened trading week, equities appear rather cautious ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

>Bottom Line
>Not only are there few economic reports next week, there are only 3½ trading days. Historically, the week of Thanksgiving has been more bullish than bearish, though that has shifted a bit in the past few years. Indeed, equities moved higher in eight of the past 10 years, though the two down years 2018 (-3.8%) and 2021 (-2.2%) may be still in recent memory, and that may be contributing to the caution we see at the moment.

>As you can see below, there were more downgrades than upgrades in the indicators this week and the overall balance is now ***Moderately Bearish***. Additionally with two of the indicators back in the Volatile category, a secondary indication of ***Volatile*** also makes sense for next week.

Hold on to you're butts, /smg/.

Rocker, I know you said no interview this weekend, since you're busy... and that you wouldn't tell me what questions to expect ahead of time, but could you at least tell me what topics to expect? I think that's a pretty normal thing to do. Journalists call subjects and "arrange an interview to discuss _____." Whether the interview stays on those topics can't be guaranteed, but at least give me something? I might need to prepare and gather materials, or look at old documents to refresh my memory.

I have a weird question for you guys:
My bank sent out an email saying they were increasing the savings account rate to 3.5% APY, which is pretty good (my other Marcus account is only 3%). HOWEVER... I do not have a savings account at my bank, I have a Money Market account. I checked the published rates on the bank's website, and it said Money Market accounts are still at 0.04% APY...... which is objectively pathetic. HOWEVER AGAIN, I actually logged into my account, and THERE it says that MY Money Market account is getting 3.45%...
Idk wtf is going on...

I always believed short term trading (swing trading, day trading etc) was impossible to profit from as that’s what so many people say but I’ve been talking to my cousin a lot since he moved to my city and he quit his high paying job in engineering to trade at home full time 3 years ago and after his first year in which he didn’t make much he’s made around 500k in the last 2 years and hasn’t had a month with a net loss all year (although he did have one that was only like $500). I’ve seen the proof, and he’s a smart dude/not the kind to lie. He says he only gets it right 50% of the time but he’s profitable bc he makes sure his bad trades are cut quickly and therefore smaller than his good trades.

How is this possible I thought everyone said trading was a scam? Or is that just because most people think they can do it as a side gig with no effort?

My WBD avg is sub 12, pretty low, so I'm not worried. Also again I don't give a shat. I'm never selling so WTF do I care. I'm merely letting things ride for decades then simply flipping a switch when the time comes to let that divvy flow into my account. It’s about taking profits and managing risk / cutting losses. I banked around 4000$ this week swinging weekly options, 3-0DTE. some market knowledge, paying attention and not being too greedy let’s you swing that gamma and take 50-100% gains on your risk daily. Problem is if you are totally wrong and you have too big of a trade on you will panic out of it instead of waiting to profit or at least scratch it. Or you get unlucky or are dead wrong and lose massively where it’s difficult to recover.

Day trading is basically impossible without an algorithm because there is no way you are beating market makers. 1 month trades minimum for retail to beat the market, but more realistically at least 6 months.

and even then, if you make 1 big fuck up you probably arent going to beat the market.

I quit smoking by vaping and stopped vaping by using spitless nicotine pouches. they are awesome because you give your lungs a break but you end up way more addicted to nicotine, at least in my case, because of the constant intake. I had a pouch in every minute of every day. sometimes i would pop 2 or 3 in. If you have $1 000 000 in stock that pays a 4% dividend that you dont want to sell due to tax purposes, but also want to hedge against downside, how would you hedge?

Selling covered calls?
Buying puts?
Buying puts along with writing covered calls?

You could use the covered calls and dividends as a way to completely fund the puts. But you can only write calls on the amount youre willing to sell per year. Another problem is that the payout for puts aren't that great. -30% is only a 120% gain for a 1 year put at expiration

So you lose $300,000 on the stock, and gain $43,000 via the put you spent $40,000 on. Reducing your loss to $257,000.

The payout only becomes good if you buy a deep OTM put and it goes down by a huge amount. Then the $40,000 put pays $200,000. Reducing a $660,000 loss to $400,000. Still not great.

Or even just start including an smg history section in all of your vids going forward, maybe. I watched your first vid a few days ago and it had some stuff on the personalities around here. Others prob do too but I've been too busy watching TD Ameritrade vids that are long af and I have to watch parts over and over trying to grasp them. Anyway, just always keep in mind there are new folks that come and discover all this and not just old regulars, and it might spark lots of new material ideas.

Energy security is a big issue, companies like Exxon or OPEC countries are not drilling more. Hey, October and up until now in November were amazing. Extra two months of summer. I'm an Ontario leaf and I actually love Michigan.

I’ve been in -40 in Alberta. Now THAT’s fucking cold. Literally spit and it freezes as soon as it hits the sidewalk. If you breathe too deeply you can feel the air forming ice on the surface of your esophagus.

It looked cheap for it's price, plus boomer buffet had a share. I'm also airing smaller cap companies instead of the giga big companies. I have some DT Midstream as well as my mid cap pick since they were the only non LP I could find. I am pretty late to oil so I am likely buying the top but I need energy exposure other than hot glowing rocks.

Figured out what went wrong with my swing trading weeklies and what went right. My new rules are :
1. No overnight positions greater than 25% portfolio value.
2. Take daily profits even if I'm confident my put/calls will skyrocket further tommorow.
3. No doubling down on positions even if they dip for retarded reasons (Poland FUD, Bullard Mouth Diarrhea)
4. Treat myself within reason to keep myself mentally complacent.
5. Remember that logic and reason are not useful in short term trades. I am just trading based on this fleeting moment.

Ths strikes me as a solid enough framework. I particularly like the general notion of limiting overnights to a percentage.

What kinds of treating yourself are you referring to?

If they do it, they'll have to announce it in advance. Liquid assets can be moved at the time. Hard assets like precious metals, guns, food, nuclear bunkers, etc. can be gathered now if you find cheap prices, but don't go overboard with things you can't smuggle in your bussy while fleeing the country. Crypto is no good, like the other post said they'll pass laws to fuck it over, and it's in a catastrophic fuckfest right now that could take a long time to play out. The most practical thing to do would probably be finding an offshore bank account to keep around as a backup, leaving an insignificant amount in it until you have a reason to move money, with no bullshit fees, in a country that won't join your government's system but isn't a scamming shithole either.

Yeah. He does a lot of planning and research. He doesn’t just draw some triangles and call it a day.

Do you not set stop losses? He’s never had a major loss like that because his parcel size isn’t more than he can afford to lose and he’s very strict with himself. Honestly he has a lot of autistic tendencies and is very disciplined/strict on sticking to rules and not letting emotions take over

Plenty of people beat market makers though. If it can be done with investing why not trading? His brother who got him into stocks invests on a medium to long term time frame and has averaged 40% a year over the last 10 years. Plenty of smaller players outperform the market and institutional investors because they’re not limited already established stocks and go with growth stocks. He was never even book smart (but he’s still probably slightly above average) unlike his brother, he is self taught and self funded he worked at the airport from like 19-29 and now has several million at 32, semi retired just managing a few peoples super funds (like a 401k). Several of my mates have also averaged around 20% over the last 3 years but that’s not the same as over 10 years
