For most companies, strict time requirements aren't implemented out of necessity, they're implemented out of a desire to control and micromanage. Same reason why a lot of companies won't even let you work remotely, even though the job doesn't require you to be on site for any reason whatsoever.

I used to show up at the office at 10:30-11 for months on end. There was no formal "clocking in" but my boss eventually had a word with me. Asked me if everything was OK and why I was showing up late. He said some people in the office noticed I was showing up late and it might be demoralizing for them. I usually stayed later than most people (although not late enough to make up for showing up late). Started showing up on time after that and then quit a month later.

Honestly, since wfh started in 2020 I have been gradually working less and less. It's gotten to the point where I only attend a few meetings per week and write the most necessary e-mails. Realistically, I am working maybe 10 hours per week, tops.

I waited until we had a business meeting and I got up from the table and pissed in the trash can beside the table and sat back down like nothing happened. After the looks of disbelief faded they asked me why and I said I was just marking my territory. Instantly fired. No regrets.

Nope. They terminated my department a month ago just to see what would happen, then realized "oh shit, we need a technology department to handle our broken ass database" and tried to hire me back on for a slight pay increase, but would not allow me to work remotely even though there is literally nothing about the duties that would require me to be on site. The servers aren't even on the company site, so I would be managing them remotely... from the office... for some reason, instead of anywhere else... Told them to fuck themselves lol

Maybe I've just gotten lucky so far in my career, but I've never had a job where showing up 20 minutes late was an issue. Nobody ever said anything as long as I stayed 20 minutes to make it up. The only exception would be if I had an important meeting at the beginning of the day, which was rare.
