Blockchains have come a long way from simple transactions of tokens. We’re now experiencing a whole means of enabling digital agreements, but one of the challenges is that the very nature of blockchain can often also be a hindrance in further adoption, namely its visibility on the public ledger. The aim of the Oasis Blockchain Protocol is to move blockchain to the next phase and have private computational smart contract environments.
Oasis Network is the first privacy-enabled blockchain platform developed to scale for open finance, and a responsible data economy. Some interesting partnerships that are already leveraging this new type of technology are Nebula Genomics, Genetica, BMW, and Meta. These partnerships solidify Oasis’ needed place in the future of Web3
Oasis introduced the first confidential EVM paratime a while back : ”Sapphire is a groundbreaking developer environment as it is the first and only confidential Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible ParaTime. It has the ability to help scale blockchain rapidly towards Web3 and allow EVM developers to quickly lay the foundations for privacy-enabled blockchain dApps, which are becoming a necessity as users demand data sovereignty.”

How does Sapphire paratime ensure data confidentiality? In a confidential ParaTime, nodes are required to use a type of secure computing technology called a TEE (Trusted Execution Environment.) TEEs act as a hypothetical black box for smart contract execution in a confidential ParaTime. This process ensures that data remains confidential, and is never leaked to the node operator or application developer. Confidentiality unlocks a range of new use cases on blockchain by allowing personal or sensitive data, such as their social security number, bank statements, health information to be used by apps on the Oasis Network — something incredibly risky on other Layer 1 networks.
