I've never understood the point of hardware wallets. Why would I use them when I can just make a .txt file of my seed, AES 256 bit encrypt it, and then upload it to globohomo cloud storage and a couple USB drives?

Hardware wallets main point is not “storage”
The storage is the seed phrase / mnemonics / 24 words seed and you should not NEVER rely on a flash memory (pen drives, sdcard) to store your private keys, they gets corrupted all the time
The best storage is
>steel plate
>bluray archival disk
>your brain
The main point of the hardware wallet is to handle private keys safely, generate good randoms and sign transactions in a airgapped environment, which your shitty pendrive cannot do
