How do I get a programming job again after spending the last 4 years unemployed/retired living off crypto? Did I basically just make myself permanently unemployable?

Just program one of those QR codes so any moron who scans it is donating to you. Then put the QR code up as posters or fliers of 'donate to help Ukraine'

How? I can't just make up fake jobs on my resume because they will check to see if I really worked there.

upload some shit to git to show that you know how to code, if anyone asks about the employment gap make up a story about a personal project that failed (shows initiative and entrepreneurship) and/or taking care of a sick relative.

do a couple projects and claim you spent the time working on them and learning while freelancing

Of course, I was a web developer for like 7 years before I quit to live off crypto. But I haven't done anything in the last 4 years and I never kept in touch with any former coworkers or anything like that.

I have no projects. I don't even like programming, which is the reason why I quit to live off crypto even though I didn't know how long I would be able to last doing that. I just did it because I fell into it and it was the only skill I have. I have no drive or motivation to improve my skills anymore, I just want to use my existing to get a job again if that's possible.

I'm in a similar situation except I never had a proper job I just did freelancing for a few years. There are businesses that will give you fake references and set up fake companies you can say you worked at. It likely will only work for a small company that doesn't do a thorough background check.

Honestly I think we're completely fucked. I've also looked at the freelance sites and they're dead as fuck because all the lrn2code memes. And the real tech sector is halting hiring and shit.

I think I might just get a job at the post office or something. Just completely check out of any ambition I ever had which is sad because I'm high iq and could have been put to good use if our society believed in second chances but it doesn't.

all you have to have is some good photoshop skills and you can do graphics design work like get a digital camera a nice DSLR and start taking photography and use that in photoshop to make cool desktop wallpapers

then you can make a patreon and basically get paid a ton

that's how I got started now im member of technical staff at meta i literally had gaps in my resume but i just said alright fuck it here is my CV. I have worked with several people who know their name. I could be totally biased and say that when we talk about how we're gonna change Meta to better help people understand and respect people who want to work on Meta but who don't share that they didn't create Meta. That is not my place of discussion here so I don't care. But i have worked on several projects here, all of them without a modicum of credibility or credibility that might be expected from a community that's willing to take risks when they need to. So now I just want to do my utmost well but I am not 100% sure why I can't even say it when i don't even think of myself as an actual contributor.
My real name is Kevin R. Henson and I am a game developer in San Francisco. I did freelance work for a couple companies and I've worked as an analyst on Blizzard.
I worked for Blizzard as an analyst for five years. I worked on Diablo III as an analyst for one year. And I still work here? I like to laugh because I think I made all the difference when I started working there. I was also part of a community that did all the work that we did for one year. We even had some fun and great conversation, i would say awesome friends

Just start freelancing, get some clients off upwork and if anyone asks you've been freelancing for the last few years.
Literally a non-issue.

Wagies here complain a lot but I work in a small restaurant business. Its stressful at first and everything is very personal, but you start to get good and able to deal with people being angry at you, customers being angry, messing up, etc. Its very nice to start working better with your coworkers and getting to know them. I'm meeting a lot of very interesting people, one of my friends is a virtuoso saxophone player. I hope one day i'll learn enough to gather my friends and can start my own bakery or something like that.

I was a NEET for ten years.
Applied for a government job, lied on my resume and got hired. They paid for my degree and paid me a salary while at uni. Then again I’m not a burger.

Unlike OP, after I quit in 2020 I've spent the last two years working on a complicated strategy game with lots of coding

If I don't make it off the game or crypto, at least I have something to show for what I did with all that time

kek this doesn't work, i've tried it. You won't even make it past the interview stage and if by some chance you do, booted after a week once they realize you lied and don't know shit.
