Not really like leveraged ETFs though. There is a bit of decay (far less so at 2x which is safer, 3x is pushing it), but it can also work in your favor. If you're using a broad index leveraged ETF, when the index (say the S&P500) goes up over a long time (and indexes are by definition built to that end as they leave out the non-performing components over time), then there's no decay, instead, you get a performance boost. So say you used a x2 leveraged ETF tracking the S&P500, over a long time it could very well brings you 2.4x instead of 2x. Of course, in case the market dumps, it works the other way. And when it crabs also.
But if you buy, it's because you expect the market to go up, so whatever.

He already bought. It's a formal contract. That's the entire point of the court case right now. To enforce that contract.
The termination fee could kick in if government regulators block the purchase, but it's not some magical $1bil call option on twitter that allows Elon to walk away if he suddenly perceives the stock value as below the $54.20 strike. These termination fees are standard in buyouts because there's always some uncertainty whether the purchase can close, and the side being purchased needs some compensation for their downside risks considering they're spending time working towards closing the transaction. It's not a unilateral option to walk away.
For Elon to actually cancel, he would either need to win his joke of a court case, or invent some kind of personal liquidity issues that prevent him from paying. He has publicly visible unencumbered TSLA holdings that easily cover the cost though, in addition to funds previously cashed out plus financing confirmed through Morgan Stanley, so unless TSLA crashes 95% within the next month he truly has no outs.

Thinking that Elon can just walk away for $1bil is very much a reddit armchair-lawyer fantasy take. Unsurprisingly, it's the most common counter-argument against TWTR, showing the complete lack of knowledge/research that most investors put in.
