my cost of attendance was something like $65k a year and i was lucky enough to get some small scholarships -- most aren't that lucky. i looked it up just now and the school i dropped out of now projects $90k a year cost of attendance. that's $360k for 4 years of school and grad plus loans are 7.54% interest. the interest only payment is $2260 a month and you're accruing interest all throughout your 3-7 year residency program.

I've been an attending in IM for 3 years now, and it has been supremely comfy and well paying. I basically work from 8-1 daily, and make 300k$. See, I didn't take some retarded 7am-7pm week on/week off gig- i went into academics instead. So i basically make all these thirsty residents do all the busy work for me (talking to patients and families, writing notes). I tell them what to do, maybe "teach" them while doing this, and then I just sit back. Maybe go to the gym at 2pm, maybe just go home and relax. And yes, my decisions save lives daily, so I also get good job satisfaction.

I'm an dual certified Anesthesiologist/Pain Physician. Upsides are I make $500k a year and my job is pretty cushy. As an anesthesiologist I just put people to sleep and let the crna babysit until the case is over and come wake them up. In pain all I do is basically stick needles in peoples backs. Downsides are I spent 13 years of my life "training" for this bullshit including college. Med school was the absolute worst thing you can imagine, especially the first two years. You're more likely to die from medical malpractice than an overwhelmingly vast majority of diseases.
