This is about energy efficiency rather than the total amount. Of course a Pos will always have less energy consumption but this is a trade off that kadena is doing in order to have a decentralized and secure network. Pos are not proven to be secure and many Pos L1's have limited amount of nodes making it more centralized. Pow was majorly abandoned because of the scalability issue not because of energy consumption. The dilemma we are facing if you want to be decentralized you need to trade off scalability or vice versa. But kadena is being both decentralized and scalable. Also many scalable L1's like Sol and Avax are not actually scalable they are just cheap right now but with price increase gas fees will increase as you have seen the gas fees for avax jumped to almost 20$ But kadena can add more chains depending on the demand
