Yeah. Definitely pick some up once you reach 6 figure hell if you like the cards. I got some beautiful cards in my collection.

I have 50k net worth and about 7% allocation to TCGs as an alternative investment. Mostly it's in MTG sealed and a few reserve list cards (about $4500 / $1400 respectively)
I suggest having some exposure to collectables/toys (not Funko pops, lmao) as a long term diversification thing. I've held these for about 2-3 years and expect to hold for another 10, minimum. Right now everyone is kvetching about depressions, recessions, end of days, market crashes, this is the time to accumulate in position in something, anything (not just stonks). When there's a big downturn, this is when you want to put your pieces on the board.

Having said that, please do understand what you're buying, and have a passion and interest in the game/product. Make sure it is investable, not just a collectable. The market has huge bid/ask spreads, low volume, and is not liquid. If I got into trouble and had to liquidate my collection tomorrow, I'd probably eat a 20-30% haircut off market value

can we just have a collectibles general so it can satisfy everyone's autism with posting junk? we dont really need random threads about investing in pokemon, mtg, numismatics, minerals, guns, etc...

I collect synths and guitars. Haven't sold one because I use them and like to play music but they only go up in value, specially if you buy them second hand.

nah, it'd be a welcome change. i wouldnt mind posting in a collectibles general, but its pretty useless to start a "boxed wrestling figures general" or "rare tree seeds general" threads. my personal autism hobby/investment is casino memorabilia, not just limited to chips

That's pretty cool. Why do people want old synthesizers? Is there something that makes them better than new ones or just using a DAW?

I don’t see pokemon lasting as long as baseball cards did because pokemon went to shit so quickly, you will want to target the 90s kids when they reach their silver years and no later.

Fair, but are we treating it as a "hey check out my collection of X how do I profit from this" or something more serious? Buying random toys from Walmart and calling it an "investment" is a joke, but certain things (Hot Wheels treasure hunts) has some merit, maybe. I don't know.

Also I don't get the appeal of coins as an investment. Can't you just buy the PM's and avoid paying an overhead on coins/numismatic value? Like modern custom made rounds seem pointless unless you're commemorating something, and even then it doesn't necessarily increase it's market value. Something old like Nazi currency or high-silver content US nickels, or limited series prints of US banknotes with art are cool though.

it'll certainly be a show-off thread, in the same sense as pmg. sure there might be a couple infographics and history people will bring up, but itll mostly just condense it into a single active thread. even card threads rarely ever make it to 300.

and coins have been an investment for centuries. history and war will always be interesting to people, and said people will always buy historical items. coins are a very accessible and popular historical item. id wager quite a few people here have some roman coins of their favorite caesars or whatever

>guitars only go up in value
sorry, no
highly depends on brand, but largely no
they would have gone up in value if you were already hodling for a decade
10 years ago you could find certain american brands at guitar center for under 1k
today every brands "premium" indochina shit sells for $1.5-2k
something happened to the industry and quality dropped while costs went up, im not happy about it
something about zoomer attention spans perhaps

I think they sound better and aren't digital recreations of the signal, plus there is iconic sounds from old synths such as a jupiter 8 or a 909 or old drum machines leave character on the sounds processed by them that isn't easily recreated in a authentic way in the digital world,
There is vsts that come pretty close such as DIVA or ABL3 but there is still a substantial gap, plus old synths are just a joy to play with as the sounds are interfacing with the real physics of the world and not a simulation so in that sense they are more alive too, and real synth freaks that build euroracks will tell u shit like that all the time.

Wooden toys, parents buy a lot of the crap I make for their kids (even though they are actually for them).
it's either that or go back to memecoins like vinu, either option is still viable as long as I still have hands

This is going to sound odd but I sold every crypto and stock and bought a lot of silver, gold and platinum. I figured if the world goes to shit which it is that I'd be better off hiding my wealth. Not saying that's the smart thing but that's all I could do at the time.
