I started my first post university career last month. How often should I ask for a raise from Shekelberg or will Shekelberg give me raises without my request?

>Shekelberg
You know the answer. The solution is every 12 to 24 months to get an outside offer and demand they match or you leave.

welcome to the workforce, lil wagie. unless you're a technigger, let me break it down for you. you get a 1.8% raise for getting bad performance reviews. you get a 2.0% raise for getting average performance reviews. you get a 2.2% raise for getting excellent performance reviews. a promotion is 10-15%. you can ask for a higher raise but unless you have a competing offer in hand, they won't care because "muh budget." and if you have a competing offer in hand and they match or exceed it, you won't want to take it because the audacity of pulling this stunt puts a big red target on your back. the fastest way to make more money is to job hop as >>51610232 said.

Go for promotions, not raises. Raises are for keeping in line with inflation. Ask for a promotion when you feel it's justified and/or in the company's interest to do so (because otherwise they might lose you). That means you do need to be quite aggressive at promoting yourself internally, especially at larger companies, or job hop. If roles aren't available, propose something you want to do to create value and literally ask them to create a new role for it so they can promote you to it. This happens all the time where I work (mainly because it's in a strong growth phase). You need to demonstrate that you have the experience and also that you're already performing those tasks to justify it. Don't just ask for 'more money lol'. I guess you could do that if your employer is stuck for options but probably won't be the case for most people.

If you want a raise, your best bet is to always find another job and leverage that, with the expectation that you're going to go to the new job
