Holy shit, I haven't thought about numerai in forever. When I was in my senior year of college as a CS student, I stumbled upon numerai and shat out a quick neural net in TensorFlow, and when I submitted my results, I was astounded to find I was in the top 60 lmao. I never got that good of a result again, but was consistently in the top 100 (usually in the 90s). I don't remember how much money I made; not enough to be worth remembering.

Then one day they sent out an email explaining they were gonna need to collect tax information and shit for all the people getting paid, and I instantly turned 360 degrees and walked away. They rolled out numeraire soon after to get around the tax shit.

It’s insane. They have actual PhDs basically working for free. People have been grumbling about the perverse incentives since the beginning, and the copium was always that once they ran out of reserves the price would get driven up by them needing to buy coins off the open market.
Then they changed their payout structure so that it diminishes asymptotically the more coins are staked. It’s so evil it’s impressive.
