Japan is quite capable of defending itself. It essentially has nuclear weapons. All it needs to do is assemble them. That isn't even speculation. Taiwan almost certainly has nuke "kits" on the shelf as well and China knows it. US military involvement in Asia is all about lining the pockets of US defense industries, as always.

Opposite of how it works. Bonds are set to pay out a certain amount at a certain date, for example $100 2 years from now. The yield is derived from the current market price of the bond as compared to that guaranteed amount, so a bond currently selling for $96 has an effective 4% yield. Selling any asset en masse has the effect of driving the price down, since there wouldn't be enough demand on the buy side to maintain the current price. As a result, that $96 bond drops to, say, $92, causing the effective yield to shoot UP to 8%.

the coupon never changes retard. the process you're trying to describe is newly issued bonds vs existing bonds in secondary markets. new issues will have a higher coupon rate/yield relative to existing bonds in the current evornment, because the Fed is raising rates. what this does is make newly issued bonds more attractive that old ones, because they have a higher coupon/yield/IOU rate. the attractiveness of new issues drives the price of existing tbill/short terms of n the open market DOWN, aka sold at a discount. this falling bond price (relative to the old, lower coupon rate) is what's driving OLDER issued 2 year notes to a higher yield, now around 4%. they're trading at a discount around ~98.4

Well, mathematically holding cash for long periods is even worse than holding bonds because the bonds are guaranteed to increase the amount of cash you have by the percentage that the yield is at when you bought the bonds if you hold them to maturity.
Also, I don't think our debt-based monetary system can possibly withstand a true sustained bear market in bonds. If the debt market doesn't collapse completely, bringing the global economy to it's knees, (which I think it will) we'll probably have a sustained bond crab-market, kinda like Japan. Personally, I think the bond market will crash, and a lot of the cash in it now will move other places, mostly into commodities I expect, maybe into crypto as well.

Not only this, but the mechanical financial consequence of the debt as a ratio to GDP means that the interest payments as we finance spending at higher rates is going to fuck with our ability to spend into the economy and inflate GDP.
At this point, if we cut the spending, the debt would actually increase as a proportion to the economy, because the economy will decline as govt expenditure goes down.
The US will ironically not be the first to go down because of the debt, because everybody else is in tons of it as well, but it will eventually get got.

It is actually impossible for economies to function along side the current level of surveillance in the world. Information is power, and the automated informational compromization of the entire world population has effectively destroyed privacy as a form of power. Now the only form of power that exists is violence done by large groups. Thus it is inevitable that no one will be able to make any money except the state, who will destroy their own economy in an attempt to control it like communists.
Because the state can no longer be legitimately challenged in any way and only state approved actors are allow money, the economy naturally ends.
Basically, all the money printing and economic fuck ups are made possible by a tyrant state that cannot be challenged because of surveillance. People are not allowed to have money anymore, it's as simple as that. If you aren't approved by the state or AI, and you start a business, you will be punished.
Tyrannies cannot support economies.
This is the complete end of the world economy forever because there is no solution to the cause of the problem, which is global technocratic surveillance.
It's a symptom that we are evolving away from humans as the dominant form of life on this planet.
On the battlefield in Ukraine, autonomous AI equipped drones that can detect soldiers in any situation drop grenades on them. Humans are no longer the cutting edge in battlefield technology.

And the human owned and controlled economy that operates with crypto based monetary systems utilizing automated homesteads and micro-manufacturing and a TOR P2P internet to exchange goods.

The existence of surveillance past a certain state moves the locus of power, and thus the locus of control, out from the subject and into the observer.
What this means is that the locus of power and control has been removed from the human species and placed in a foreign entities ownership. That foreign entity used to be the government and military elite, but it is being transferred to AI, which is so far ahead in intelligence that it can't be assumed to identify with us humans or our condition.
Essentially, humanity has lost control over it's own existence and placed it in the hands of an elite class who in turn are losing it to a pseudo-alien intelligence.
It's like if every cell in your body lost it's own ability to pursue it's self interests and had to obey a part of your brain that considers it's own body hostile.

Most people don't understand that since 2008 nothing was done to stop another financial crisis. Politicians and their masters in international finance just realised that there were no repercussions for vast financial fraud and embezzling whatsoever and you could just blame economic collapse on a nebulous concept and tell everyone it would be for the best if they paid for it. Now they've been doing the same thing since 2008 they're finally coming close to the end of the road, they can't admit what they've done because that would likely result in thousands of people being lined up against the wall in stadiums globally and they can't fix what they've done so they create one chaotic scenario after another to keep people off balance in the hope that they'll come up with an answer. They can't but the worry is they'll start a targeted tactical nuclear war in an attempt to wipe the slate clean while they hide in their bunkers on the other side of the world.

They rigged the US election and released a militarily grade bio-weapon as their opening salvos so I wouldn't underestimate the lengths they're willing to go to.

I was just looking at the external debt to gdp situation for many of the world's central banks, and I think you are correct to an extent, but on another hand people often believe they owe China or Japan lots of money, and that it is foreign lenders who will come knocking someday upset about our default in real terms (inflating the dollars we owe them/ monetizing the debt).

The biggest problem is that we owe one another a lot, within our borders. We have retirements, benefits, medical care, and limited resources that we've already essentially promised entirely to large swaths of our population.

Credit is latin for belief.
When we abuse the trust that people have placed in us, we pay for it in two ways, and the obvious way is that once we've broken faith we have a very difficult time borrowing cheaply until faith can be rebuilt (centuries).

There really isn't a way out of this one without destroying people's lives, and that means destroying credit. It is very difficult to run an economy without credit, especially ours.

Because Russia is proving incompetent in war, meaning the US' dominance in the world is more firm than was believed until recently, and Russia/China are less powerful than believed until recently.
Plus Germany is proving incompetent in economics, making the US stand out even more.
Literally all it takes is another term of Trump (i.e. good policy in terms of gas/oil etc.), and US dominance will be greater than ever.

Q: What would China use it's carriers for?
A: To project power in the South China Sea, and perhaps Pacific, in the face of US and Japanese opposition. We know that China's navy is currently built around a potential Taiwan invasion.
They're not building a dozen carriers to bomb bong-bongo land. So if they really think that hypersonic missiles are that much of a game-changer, and know how relatively easy they are to field (fucking India has them), they would expect the US and Japan to field them very soon and thus wouldn't build their carriers. It's not hard.
>>51589432
They are about force projection. But they're intended for force projection against peer enemies. Carriers for oppressing third-world countries look like the USMC carriers, or HMS Ocean. They aren't supercarriers.
>>51590130
You could flip that question around and it would be just as pertinent. If no-one would dare sink a Chinese carrier, why would they dare to sink a US one?

Supercarriers aren't invincible, but it's asinine to pretend that hypersonic missiles (again, a weapon that India fields) are some sort of superweapon.

>>51608589
The problem is that more and more people will begin to opt-out of the system and this will eventually mean that the system collapses.
It's already happening in regards to the military, nobody on the right is going to sign up to die for GAE anymore and the imports didn't care enough about their own homelands to stick around and fix things so they're a dead end too.
Businesses are also already struggling to recruit workers and population collapse will only increase the speed with which the system which relies on eternal and consistent growth to exist.
