Unless you're a boomer with a lifetime of investments you don't earn a "livable wage" or even middle class status. You earn huge money, at the very least tech company SWE tier money, or you sink. $100k a year is the new McDonald's.

Here’s what I don’t get. If you’re gonna adjust the living wage to keep up with inflation, why even have inflation to begin with?

i get around this by changing jobs every 2 years for a 10-15% raise on a non-promotion year and a 25-35% raise on a promotion year. i give them exactly 2 weeks notice, i don't share my written documentation with people i'm expected to train, and i do a poor job of training verbally. the financial losses secondary to this are probably in the 7 figure range, but i don't care.

Good post, you have to job hop its so fucking tiresome. Every two years I have to do this job search humiliation ritual, learn a new group of wagie names, learn how to handle new boomer managers, learn new software and systems etc.
My current job I thought was finally going to be somewhere I stick around. Rave reviews from managers and everyone I work with and they still fuck me with a 3% raise and when I ask for more they gaslight me like it's an insane request. Waiting until end of year bonuses get paid out before quitting.

same here. stay for the bonus then start looking at the 2 year market. learning new shit is awful but the expectations for the first 6 months are pretty low.

Based job hoppers. Is the 2-year mark a strict requirement for this to work? I'm looking at making the jump 1 year in.

Depends on the industry. Working in cyber security I've left jobs before 3 months and at 9 months. Have had zero problems finding employment because of muh skillz

If you get a good offer or hate your job take it's fine but I'l think it would start looking bad on a resume if all your jobs were like this
