I can no longer apply to the thread about the Fren with Eppstein-Barr virus reactivation. I am hoping he sees this.

If you have this problem, please ask your doctor to prescribe you at least 300mg of lithium!

Eppstein-Barr virus cannot replicate if you have lithium in your bloodstream. About 90% of adults have antibodies to EBV, but only 20% do in areas where the water has high levels of lithium.

Also, consider that EBV antibodies are associated with bipolar disorder. The first-line treatment for bipolar disorder is lithium!

Read this:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7133420/

All it takes it 300mg of lithium a day to keep your EBV from reactivating. Lithium has antiviral properties.

Good luck, fren!

Also, mods, please have a heart and leave this up.

I just want to help him. It is obvious that he is being given the expensive drugs and they skipped over the cheap one that actually works.

Currently taking Inflectra to manage my Crohn's (with good results). $700 annual deductible (costs like $6k out of pocket per year)
Asacol didn't work, and Methotrexate was giving me liver issues. Any suggestions?

But anon, my deductible is $700. That's it.

Not quite.
Crohn's disease is a combination of a genetic immunodeficiency with environmental exposures that dysregulate your microbiome. CD is correlated with genetic mutations that reduce your humoral (basically mucosal surface) immune system's ability to recognise things called PAMPs (pathogen associates molecular proteins). I promise this is not a /biz/ joke.
To compensate for this defect, the immune system upregulates T-cell activity, but T-cells are more likely to start recognising and attacking your own tissues when chronically upregulated.
Treating CD the doctor way involves suppressing this aberrant T cell activity with immunosuppressive drugs. It works for some people but causes other problems
You need to:
1. Reduce the amount of bacteria in your guts triggering the abnormal immune response
2. Increase the thickness and integrity of the mucus layer of your guts so any such bacteria are less likely to meet your immune cells
3. Eliminate foods which make the above two problems worse
