1) the internet right now is essentially controlled by four corporations: amazon, google, facebook, microsoft. this stifles innovation - startups can't get funded since they're essentially building on quicksand. revoking api access to whoever they want can make a startup obsolete overnight - not good.
2) we're at the top of the s-curve for web2 companies. think faang/uber/lyft/airbnb/all these companies that IPOd and extracted everything from users. this economic model is not sustainable, and the only reason why people still use them is because there are no alternative platforms to build services. dfinity offers an opportunity for developers to build open and interoperable internet services. imagine a world where users of a network get incentivized, not just the corporate top and early engineers of a startup. VCs and corporate leaders will still make money, but not at the mercy of users who were responsible for growing the network.
3) history has shown that people would rather build on open and permissionless platforms - it's why AOL and Compuserve failed in the late 90s/early 2000s. in the next 10 years, i believe that developers will choose to build on dfinity rather than the traditional stack (which is a huge headache - databases/firewalls/servers/etc.). all you need right now is react, node, webpack, and motoko. no fucking azure, no mongodb, no firewalls, etc. you can store an entire database of users in hashmap on motoko - one line. it's insanely powerful, and the masses will soon realize this.
