I'm in my final year of an accounting B.S. and I seriously don't think I can go into the career long-term. I've never been someone to cry about "tedious" or "boring" work, but I truly think I will hate my life because there is absolutely no thinking involved with this subject and it is so underwhelming and uninteresting; I'm still learning shit I learned in my first year as a senior, and I go to a well-known/prestigious school. I held on because there's a good job market and I thought it would get deeper/more interesting, but it's literally just rinsing and repeating the same basic shit.

Are the jobs as bad as the schooling? I have a scholarship so it feels like a mistake to change my major so close to graduating. Has anyone spun off into something thought-provoking or worthwhile after getting an accounting degree?

Jobs aren't meant to be thought-provoking and worthwhile. Main draw of accounting imo is the ability to work for yourself once you have enough experience.

I'm not under the illusion that my job will be my joy in living or what inspires me, but I'd at least like to do something that challenges me. If you're good at the work then you will get assigned to the tougher clients, I'm on year 10 and the difficulty level keeps going up the higher you go if you are working on the real stuff. But most people work on saly-type engagements and are not really plugged in that much.

It doesn't really matter and it's a fine way to get a paycheck. Worthwhile? Thought-provoking? I am a little jealous of the real estate developers and feel like they've got it pretty good with doing projects that make an impact.

I'll tell you what I told my brother. Our mother thought he was smart because he graduated with accounting degree + cpa. I failed out senior year because I spent all my time on my startup (which I later sold), and investing in crypto (this was 2015-16). You better learn how to make rich people more money with their money and learn the stuff they dont teach you in school eg. foreign tax loopholes, crypto taxes, etc. If not, well you can always be a consultant at a big 4. Good luck and god speed, anon.

accounting is the best business degree, you can pretty much do whatever even if you don’t want to be an accountant
the “AI will replace accountants” meme is a complete joke. covid made a million processes in receivables and payables “automated” and it still comes back with hundreds of errors a month
basically the goal should be to get the cpa, get comfortable with excel, then automate as much as you can in excel, learn vba and sql and then move on to controller or cfo. considering that most people in operations departments literally cannot count we’re not going anywhere. judging from your OP post tho you’re an INTP that will be suicidal for the first 2 years minimum if you do decide to work as an accountant

im graduating with my B.S. in accounting this semester and i havnt done a single homework or test problem because most of my exams were online exams and i used chegg to cheat on everything. i legit dont know the basics about debits and credits, and im graduating with a 3.6 GPA from my state university. I got so good and fast at copy pasting my test and homework problems that google literally thinks im a bot because of how fast i can do it. also, i've never held any other job, ive spend the past 3 years bodybuilding and gooning in my cave. im going to try to fake my resume and get a job in government accounting, as other anons have mentioned that government is filled with boomers and less hours.

>> No.51374258

>>51374160
I did the exact same shit during college, used test banks I found online on sites like quizlet, chegg, coursehero. I would memorize tesr question formats on the first test and use them to find test banks posted on quizlet that the teachers used. Better yet they gave us some sample questions and then I just googled those and found the entire test bank.

I would cram the night before a test by studying those test banks of hundreds of questions and I could actually memorize the answers to multiple choice and look for keywords or sentence structure in math questions to know that if the question sounds like that, I take the first number and times it by the third number in the question, etc.

I got a 3.9 GPA in my undergrad and I actually went for a masters in accountancy after that and got a 4.0.

I was so depressed and uninterested in accounting that this was easier to me than actually learning. People would ask questions in class and I had no idea what they were talking about and then I would ace the test the next week.

I have worked a real accounting job for over 2 years now and in my current position I make 65k/yr at 25. I was worried for a long time I'd be "found out" for being a fraud but in reality the job is super easy and I really feel I never even needed to go to school for it. This is the result of being functionally depressed but having probably a ~120ish IQ

>> No.51374314

Can anyone tell me what you actually do as an accountant? I tried looking up day in the life videos on youtube but it's just a bunch of people with the camera pointed at the them instead of the actual stuff they're doing.

you'll get filtered by IQ and accounting tests for being a retard. no worries.
>as other anons have mentioned that government is filled with boomers and fewer hours.
they'll most likely test you on basic accounting principles to filter you. you should try going for a WFH comm. real estate company (that's not in the south, since it's filled with conservative boomers who will run you dry and think their god's gift to mankind) and study the first few chapters of a basic accounting textbook (they'll test you on it). you'll spend the first few months doing fuck all and the work is relatively a meme since it's bookkeeping for multiple properties.

I have no idea what the process of becoming a radiologist is like or how hard that is but I hear they make a lot of money.
