How does taxes work in relation to exercising call options? Let's say you buy leaps on SoxL (or siga if you prefer) at 10. You hold the leaps until 2023/2024 and soxl is back to 35 or something. What happens when you exercise those calls? What happens when you don't have enough capital and need to transfer additional funds into your account to exercise or if you sell to close some of your deep in the money calls to have enough cash to exercise the remaining ones. What would you be paying taxes on?

Sorry if it's hard to understand what I'm trying to say. I'm a bit of a retard and I've been thinking about this for sometime.

If you're exercising calls it's just like buying stocks. I'm not from US so I can't give you specifics but it's probably just the broker fees you need to pay there.

If you're selling the calls that would be a taxable event if you made profit on them. I imagine if you held them for more than a year then it would be long term capital gains and if it was held less than a year short term capital gains.

Which? The market was rallying on lower volume (at least for some stocks) so that tells me it's an exit pump. Just waiting patiently for the market to drop out, but if I'm wrong I'm wrong.

More annoyingly, CMRX and UUUU keep trickling upwards, which is threatening my ccs. However, I've learned that the price of a straddle can help dictate where the market expects the movement to be, so you can actually use that to price strikes more effectively.

Looks like it's on Nov 7th, which seems far away.
Using the straddle thing for how much the market has priced it in, eg the expected movement by a certain date (Jan is the first exp after earnings), they're expecting the price to be between $0.50-$4.50 by then. However, a month out, things could be very different. IV is still very high.

they only have to pay $29 million of their debt load by 2023 and the rest isn't due until 2026, so I would be incredibly shocked if they entered bankruptcy talks by even 2024 to be honest. BBBY isn't even close to being profitable while PRTY actually already is.

So here's something as well (and I'm not an expert at this by any means). Using the ATM straddle to gauge market expectations, here are all the straddles of VIX on the current chains.
What strikes me as interesting (though not necessarily a confirmation of a happening) is that a lot of contracts are taken out for October 12th. This is the first expiry after Thanksgiving, but it seems the market is pricing in a large increase in volatility around that date, since calls have a huge premium at that time

This. The 25 y/o 100 IQ news-tards keep writing things like "obviously Congress wouldn't allow a strike to happen in the current situation if it gets that far."
Is it? Is it obvious that a Congress in which Nancy Pelosi passes for a reasonable moderate would vote to bust a striking union 2 months before they need those goons to stuff ballot boxes? With Twitter shrieking at them the whole time?

Wife was walking around in a towel. So I walk up to her and lift it up and smack her booty. Then I lead her to the bedroom and pull the towel off. Push her face down on the bed and she crawls seductively to the middle of the bed. I take all my clothes off and buried my face right in her pussy/ ass and ate it. This means Albert must've been given July. If it was any other month then there's a possibility that Bernard could've been given 17, 18, or 19 and deduced the correct date immediately. Albert knows that the only two days to choose from are 14 and 16 which are not unique.
>Bernard: At first I don't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know now.

Yes. That's kinda how everyone gets into selling. Start with defined risk, move to double defined risk (iron condors), get frustrated with how little they move, then look into how to make naked puts work.

Keep position sizes small. Like 1% of your portfolio. You'll be fine regardless at that point. If you need more info on naked options, tastytrade has done an enormous number of studies on them. Follow their method exactly until you understand everything a bit better. Kind of like learning a multiplayer video game, learn the meta, learn why the meta is the meta, then once you have a firm understanding, get creative.

I really am a fan of the derivatives market even though I'm just getting started, but theres always much more to learn. Having defined risk is really attractive, since position sizing and risk management seem to be key for longterm success. But by the same token, defined risk means certain things are priced into eg the options market so it can be difficult to develop an edge.
Like I mentioned much earlier, a straddle's breakeven cam be used to see where the market expects a price to move, so selling a CC beyond the upper value means you should never get called away the caveat here is that premiums/volume/liquidity is low (eg $0.05 or $0.10 per contract for a $20 stock)

Then theres all sorts of shit you can do, bonds, CFDs, swaps, using them to assign risk and hedge against certain things, its quite interesting. And yet for all that knowledge youd think I could turn a profit on it

Due to its low volatility/IV and blue chip nature I can use it as a proxy as a bond/risk free investment (eg how you 60/40 or whatever stocks/bonds im a portfolio). But then I can hedge the downside risk with bonds or something and use it as a cornerstone of a larger portfolio

Separately, I also heard that the US might have a weak dollar, but more likely theyll tank the global economy and force everyone else to enter massive debt and buy the USD, bringing it back in line. The EU energy crisis falls in line with this

Sell a put at a strike price you are comfortable buying them at. If it doesn't drop that low, you win anyway because you keep the premium. Make sure you have enough cash to cover all your sold puts.

I find a ticker that I would like to own and would be comfortable holding long-term. I sell a put. Eventually I'm assigned. I repeat the process. Now I have two hundred shares (I normally sell more than one put but I'm trying to keep it simple). I sell one covered call, but I leave the other one hundred shares alone in case the price spikes. Basically I always obtain shares in multiples of 100 and I sell CC on half. I sell puts on red days and sell covered calls on green days. Oh, and of my shares get called away I reevaluate the ticker and decide if I want to sell puts again. Sometimes you won't want to.

Don't worry about IV if you sell options.

As for your example that is not correct. If you have sold a 25 put then the stock price needs to drop below 25 before you can get assigned.

And by the way that example is so far out the money, the premium is going to be non existent. More realistic is 45.

Let's say I sold one contract for LOVE at 25p with an expiry of 9/16 this past Friday afternoon. As you can see, the bid and ask are 15 and 25, respectfully. Typically that means if I ask for something in the middle someone will buy. So, I've sold my put for 25 and I've collected a premium of twenty dollars. (Note: you have to have 2500 to pay for the hundred shares should you be assigned.) If LOVE tanks and the price is at or below 25 at close 9/16, I am assigned those shares.

Selling a LEAP option contract is not the only way that an investor can incur tax consequences with this instrument. An investor who exercises a LEAP call option and then sells the stock purchased immediately would be subject to short-term capital gains rates even if LEAP contract was held for more than 12 months. Once a LEAP call option is exercised, the investor must hold the stock purchased for more than 12 months from the exercise date in order to qualify for the long-term capital gains tax rate.

It stopped being a good play when this curve definitively turned down: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/data/health-tools/monkeepox.page

(or London or SF or Toronto or any other of the leading indicator cities)

Now if we get some crazy mutation, if that curve turns up, if you see transmission chains among normal schoolkids, well, then we're cooking with gas and you'd want to hop back on the SIGA train. But those are "wait and see" catalysts that are far from guaranteed.

If you just boggleheaded jepi on red days and sold covered calls on bull runs for the next year you would make atleast 30% in 12 months. It's a pretty based strategy right now since the markets are down so much... it has 20% growth potential in the underlying sp500 holds and it pays like 9% divvy. If I was a rich fag that would be a huge part of my portfolio for sure but as a 5 fig fag I'll continue to giga leverage options

The Chains are clanking together because they Chains are moving now. They're moving faster and faster after sitting still for a long time.

What are the chains holding? Hidden Variables.

What Causes The Gyrations Of The Market. Chains. The Hidden Chains.

I think this is a double metaphor (and thus not financial advice) where the chains could either be the chain on the chain-operated gate that is holding back the Kraken, or the chains holding back the princess, and you get to choose your own adventure based around that depending on your own investing strategy.
