For anyone here planning on renouncing residency to seek a tax haven... (US / CAN) How are you planning on dealing w the exit tax?

inb4 don't pay taxes, my tax record was established w the feds getting the Quadriga db so I did not wanna look over my shoulder constantly. It fucking sucks having 25% of your gains get wiped though I'll be honest.

According to these persons of Jewish descent,

The other option is to get a shifty lawyer to try some business + inventory voodoo. It has to acquire your goods without you gifting them so that there isn't a dispensation. Probably involving loans. The important part is that your Canadian company now has the crypto as inventory. There has to be some way for the company to then (re)pay you while avoiding taxes. Inventory theft would also be an option. If you aren't coming back to Canada and there's weak or nonexistent extradition you could also embezzle and just not report it and/or wait and hope for changes to crypto rules that would bring more favourable treatment.

If you do sell, you can mitigate that 25% with RRSPs, RESPs, etc. Then slowly draw these down over years where you have $0 income to declare. If you're older it could be worth close to $100K in tax avoidance.

There's also defi loan bullshit you can do, but be aware that this demonstrates significant expertise and could see your gains taxed as income if you end up in court.
