We are heading straight into a brutal stagflationary decade, if not longer. Inflation of the magnitude we are seeing doesn’t just disappear after one little blip, if you believe that it does you unironically believe the fed’s “transitory inflation” thesis from last year. The effect that current rate hikes will have won’t be fully felt until at least a year out. We went 15 years without a true recession, 15 years without any uptick in unemployment. All of your investment instincts were trained by a period where everything eventually went up if you held long enough, where buying anything worked. You got a degree, you poured some money into an index fund every month, and 15 years later you were sitting in a decent spot.

No longer will that be the case. Stagflation and the relative scarcity of energy will cause living standards to go down. If you didn’t make it during the Golden Bullrun of 1980-2021, well, that was your last chance.
