That’s what I’ve been wondering.

Would it be better to self publish and pay a good editor to help you finish the book instead of going through a publishing house?
Then you could pay a voice actor a couple grand to read the book for audible, and post the e book on Amazon.
Pay another few grand for a limited run printing and take the book to some independent book shops.
By that point, if it’s any good, it’ll start selling and you’ll be able to keep all the money.
