My mum owns a small café in Leicester. Her electricity bill has just jumped from £10k ($12k) a year to £55k ($64k) a year.

She is working out her options but more than likely she will be forced to close. Ugh. This is what we get for trying to "stand up" to Putin. I don't care about Ukraine. I don't care about what Russia is doing. I want our businesses to just be able to stay afloat but politicians here want war instead.

They've had nuclear reactors since the 1950s.
They won't take over because their capital costs are enormous.
Any new reactors started now wouldn't make power for 10 years at best, hardly much of a solution to an immediate energy crisis.

One interesting thing I learned from someone in industry regarding renewables is that a planned use for old EV batteries is going to be grid storage.
Half burnt out EV batteries will be extremely cheap with EVs becoming more common and it will help a great deal with the grid storage issue for Solar.
Would be interested if there was some way to get exposure to that.

If it pumps like it did in 2005-2007 or 1973-1975, it still has another 10x to go. We're at $30 billion mcap and it's going to at least $300 billion. Uranium mining sector is extremely tiny. Big oil companies are getting shit on by politicians, nuclear power got the ESG friendly label along with natgas. Big oil is going to hedge with uranium and natgas investments like they did the last two bull runs.

>buy into stocks and shares ISA around February this year
>Down almost a month's salary end of August

I am a retard and I am paying for an expensive lesson as to why it is stupid to buy in at one time rather than spreading over the months. Also trusting robo investor companies and being too lazy to do the investing myself. I might as well hold now, I'm not withdrawing at a loss.

Market breadth reflected the selling bias today. Decliners led advancers by a nearly 4-to-1 margin at the NYSE and a 2-to-1 margin at the Nasdaq.

Every S&P 500 sector closed in the red with losses ranging from 0.4% (financials) to 3.4% (energy).

The energy sector was in last place, by a wide margin, while energy complex futures sold off. WTI crude oil futures fell 5.5% to $91.60/bbl. Natural gas futures fell 2.6% to $9.06/mmbtu. Unleaded gasoline futures fell 7.0% to $2.53/gal. This comes after Bloomberg reported that the EU is set to meet its gas storage filling goal two months ahead of target. Also, European Commission President von der Leyen said that an emergency intervention is being planned to rein in energy prices.
Reviewing overnight developments:
The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index rose to 103.2 in August (Briefing.com consensus 97.4) from a downwardly revised 95.3 (from 95.7) in July. This was the first increase in the index in four months. In the same period a year ago, the Consumer Confidence Index stood at 115.2.
The key takeaway from the report is that even with the August improvement in confidence, the Expectations Index remains below 80.0, which suggests the continued presence of an elevated risk of recession.

options will be expiring on the 17th, then we have the FOMC meeting on the 20-21st. I dont think its going to be pretty, might go even harder into the shorts.
