Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

Kucoin stole my XMR withdrawal.
Never arrived, can't verify the txid they sent me other than "yeah this txid is on-chain". Never had issues before, simply just didn't arrive and of course no exchanges ever show the transaction keys.
It was literally just $10 though.

START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL
START MINING IN P2POOL
>START MINING IN P2POOL

P2Pool combines the advantages of pool and solo mining; you still fully control your Monero node and what it mines, but you get frequent payouts like on a regular pool.

P2Pool has no central server that can be shutdown/blocked because it uses a separate blockchain to merge mine with Monero. There's no pool admin that can control what your hashrate is used for or decide who can mine on the pool and who can't. It's permissionless!

Decentralized pool mining (P2Pool) is pretty much the ultimate way to secure a PoW coin against 51% attacks. When P2Pool reaches 51% of the total network hashrate, Monero will be essentially invulnerable to such attacks.

>YOU CAN NOW MINE IN P2POOL DIRECTLY FROM THE MONERO GUI WALLET!

If you have a PC or laptop:

1. Download Monero GUI
https://i.imgur.com/ZGefPef.png

2. Pick 'Advanced' mode
https://i.imgur.com/4c0uSE4.png

3. Set up your wallet
https://i.imgur.com/4lMKh00.png

4. Keep the default Daemon settings "Start a node automatically in the background"
https://i.imgur.com/maACmmT.png

5. Once sync'd, go to Advanced->Mining and pick 'P2Pool'. If you have a laptop or low-end PC (~50 kH/s) pick "Mini" pool, else pick "Main"
https://i.imgur.com/E60JeMG.png

>YOU CAN USE P2POOL-COMPATIBLE REMOTE NODES IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR OWN LOCAL COPY OF THE BLOCKCHAIN
https://xmrvsbeast.com/p2pool/monero_nodes.html

OTHERWISE SWITCH TO A SMALLER POOL, IT TAKES YOU 30 SECONDS AND YOU CAN JUST SOURCE A DIFFERENT CONFIG FILE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO FUCK UP YOUR EXISTING ONE.

Many inexperienced miners think that big pools give better profits which is not the case. Your profits in the long run depend ONLY on your hashrate, NOT on the pool's hashrate.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand yet another Monero-only darknet market has recently launched:

>Dark Matter Market
>Payment

>Dark Matter is walletless market, no need to deposit money before making order. XMR multisig is also available payment method.
>Today only official terminal client such as monero-wallet-cli and monero-wallet-rpc support XMR multisig. The market suggests you to use XMS.
>XMR Multisig Script helps to use XMR multisig even if you don't really understand how XMR MS works. All required actions are already scripted, you just need to follow few steps. It is open source and everybody can verify that code is clean and doesn't do anything malicious.

>Everyone who wants to make it better can send pull request on gitea. Who knows maybe we can create new standard payment method for DNMs.

http://darkmat3kdxestusl437urshpsravq7oqb7t3m36u2l62vnmmldzdmid.onion/

This puts the current number of Monero-only markets/vendor shops at 9, haven't done the math yet but this probably means that BTC acceptance has finally dropped below 50%

In any case the emerging trend is patently obvious: the Monero-only standard is taking hold. Buh-bye Bitcoin, you had a good run, enjoy retirement.

Like cap and trade? Man that'll be some tough stuff to get around. If they make it so bad I have to actually pay a tax on breathing, I think monero might become more useful in that context since everyone will have to pay.

Remove MyMonero. Not only is it broken after the upgrade, but it"s a clear as day attack on Monero giving UTXOs to a single centralized server that, if it would be large enough, could help eliminate ring members.

If you're using the CLI, you might've given the wrong path to monerod. If you're using the GUI, you just need to change it back in the settings. Either way, the original blockchain should still exist in the old location (albeit behind a little).

As for the cause of this, maybe you accidentally overwrote your settings file when upgrading? I'm not sure without being given more info

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptocurrencies. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier to entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward gradually approached 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.

What is the optimal xmrig settings when I have dedicated device which I use for nothing else then xmr mining ?
It is an old gaming laptop and it gives somethigng like 1000h/s which seems kinda low. So I checked htop and it uses only 2 out of 4 cores. How can I make xmrig use 100% of machine power ?

>> No.51211869

Don't run all 4 threads at once, check your systems temps and make sure you're not literally cooking the machine on those 2 threads
HOWEVER
You're going to want to enable hugepages and run xmrig as admin. To specify number of threads you use the "-t" option

so

./xmrig -t (NUMBER OF THREADS)

Everyone in monero community is so hard on monero hodlers and non stop hassle them for not giving the currency value because it only has value if you use it… but I would argue that holding monero away is like stacking cash in a safe. I've had a few XMR for awhile, and I basically only use them if I need to but I'd like to use it more. My main reasons for not using it more are lack of options (in my area) and lack of steady Monero income. As a result, I've got 1 wallet that I hodl with and 1 that I use for poker night and random things that I CAN use XMR for.

If my job paid in XMR and I could go out on the town with it, I'd use it almost exclusively. I'm wary of using Cake Wallet's gift card feature too much because I feel like that pumps a lot of XMR into a central point, which could result in problems down the line.

You can live off XMR using gift cards. Food, stuff from Amazon, gas, plane tickets and hotels.

I don't mean to shit up this thread shilling for a shitcoin, I'm just genuinely curious what Monero users think of Firo?

>> No.51250998

>>51250177
Couple of thoughts
It's old - and generally uses proven technologies. So aside from the actual infrastructure being shit, nontrivial, it's reasonably sound.
Handles privacy different from Monero. Given legitimate privacy focused coins are few, I feel it is good to have different means to achieve the same ends. Eggs and baskets.

I know people complain about masternodes, and as swell as it would be if all networks could be proof of work, again, eggs and baskets. In this case, the network is trying to find ways to survive. It's not ideal, and sadly appears to have done nothing to reverse POW shortcomings, but it does address network security for the foreseeable future. We'll see what happens when/if ETH ever goes 2.0

Recommendations: FIRO can be used as an added layer of obfuscation. It's redundant, but if you really want to limit your fingerprint for particular holdings one way or the other it is an option.

Alternatively, in the vein of eggs in one basket: where XMR isn't a great hold, it is basically the only digital 'asset' that can serve like silver/gold, except it can be transacted digitally. To that effect I consider XMR something to sit alongside the roughly 10-15% of total assets to exist as 'oh shit' funding. Silver/gold facilitate different purposes, and while FIRO doesn't REALLY offer much of any utility beyond XMR, it would be an awful shame if somehow XMR became completely compromised and your avenue to private digital transaction were severed. Certainly not 50/50, but given you can hold dozens of FIRO, to 1 XMR, where there are dramatically fewer FIRO in circulation, while FIRO and XMR otherwise have comparable long term tokenomics? I mean, is ~15$ for ~20 FIRO going to ruin you financially?

Well the devs seem to respect Monero as the de-facto king of privacy coins, unlike the zcash trannies and the bitcoin mixing retards. It's also using lelantus spark, which is good for long-term testing and research for the privacy space (there were talks of monero implementing lelantus spark in the distant future, but I'm not sure if that's on the table anymore). I do remember there being one major red flag with Firo though, either a dev tax or some kind of pre-mine. It also used to be called Zcoin, not a fork of Zcoin but a re-branding into Firo. One of the Monero Research Lab cryptographers by the name of Sarang Noether moved to the Firo project, but that was so he could earn a steady salary instead of getting paid a lump sum in Monero right after it dumped 50%.

Say what you will about monero competitors, but I think having a lot of (legitimate) players in the privacy space has the added benefit of wasting fed resources by having to research and crack them. If they choose to ignore coins like Wownero, Firo, Haven, Oxen, Epic Cash, Secret, Pirate Chain, etc. there's a non-zero chance that one of these projects could grow exponentially and get incredibly secure and they'll be years behind on research. Alternatively, every coin that they have to research and keep an eye on will basically eat resources that could have went towards finding flaws/exploits in monero.

yes, there is something like a 15% block reward
It is part of my concern for the project - it is technically centralized because of it. Open source, so there's nothing stopping miners/etc from cutting the reward and continuing the chain without Reuben and company. Same applies to slashed miner rewards. If miners cared (they don't) they wouldn't have updated.
That said, different strokes. A cryptographically secure privacy coin that has funds to pay cryptographers to make it all happen beyond goodwill.

But again, different strokes. Not every network needs to be perfect, nor will they. It hurts store-of-value, but having more functioning private networks in this space does help the ultimate goal, privacy. In a world of garbage, your ghillie suit should match accordingly.

Also if it's good enough for criminals then it's good enough for you. xmr solves the long standing privacy issues that plagues other cryptos. You are ensured that the tax guys can't blacklist your coins, due to clever math.
Tail emissions separates fees from mining rewards. Users get cheap fees for sending, while miners know at a minimum what they will get for mining a block.
RandomX hashing keeps corpo mining rigs & farms from using ASICs or FPGAs to centralize mining. Decentralization keeps the WEF comped political class from attacking us using regulations or war.

A tip jar is a good start. Selling used shit on craigslist or FB marketplace? note that you take XMR as well as fiat.

If she bleeds, she breeds. At 14-16 women are the most fertile. At 16 she finished puberty. Have fun breeding with used up haggs who are ready to "settle down" after riding the cock carousel. Have fun having down syndrome abominations with your 30+ women. Also "pedo" means atraction to prepubescent childred. So fuck off. You will be the guy who will be bitching after they raise the age of consent to 21 or 25, calling people pedos for finding 19 attractive.

I doubt it would work. I'm sure the way the system works is that it will prevent anyone with a UK address/residency from withdrawing monero, no matter how it was traded. Binance does the same thing to US citizens.
