Monero is cool tech but privacy-based crypto products and services are in the crosshairs (see: tornado cash). it seems very likely that monero and other privacy coins might get cracked down on in the coming wave of regulations. obviously they can't fully ban the protocol, but they can limit fiat on/off ramps, penalize interaction with Monero (ex: red flagging wallets that touch it) and maybe even make it illegal to transact with it. who knows. the question of how privacy will continue to exist in a CBDC system is an unsolved problem, personally i think stuff like federated ledgers or parachains create a window of opportunity but a lot depends on what regulation will look like, and judging by the draconian tone of the proposed european legislation and stuff like Yellen's DoT proposing to gather information on basically every transaction (and the fact that Congressional crypto hearings keep coming back to how crypto can be used to fund terrorism, evade sanctions etc) point to privacy-based protocols like monero not doing very well in the near future.
