Bros I applied for a couple weeks ago and have a follow up interview today but I lost my ACTUAL job last Friday. So as far as the employer I'm interviewing for is concerned - I'm still employed. They're obviously going to verify with my last employer (that just canned me) what my employment dates were - so what should I tell the HR roasties during my follow up interview today? Should I tell them my company is going through a "restructuring" I didn't like so submitted my 2 weeks? I obviously just can't tell them I got canned. What do??

Tell them you got canned because times are bad and everyones getting canned and that you were caught looking for a better job so they canned you before you left and thats what you heard from someone from HR

Thanks, anon. I think I'll say this. With the upcoming memecession I can say that the company started mass layoffs and word started floating around my department that they were making cuts.

NO
that's terrible advice
don't mention shit unless they ask, if you tell them you're unemployed you're giving leverage to the HR roasties.

What happens when they call my former employer asking for my employment dates and they tell them I'm no longer employed, won't it look worse if I'm lying?

These days, the vast majority of HR departments will only confirm,
>Dates of employment
>Job title(s)
So you can be as creative as you like with the truth. Personally, I'd say,
>I've had a couple of other job offers, so I decided to hand in my notice now to free myself up to start ASAP
>That said, YOUR vacancy is still my #1 choice, and I've told the other companies I need a week to make a decision
That way,
>You look in demand
>You explain your departure in a good light
>You speed up their recruitment process

Recruitment is a war. I'm amazed people aren't creative with it more often.

Let them call.
Handle it if potential employer brings it up.
