>>51025881just because you know how to code doesn't mean you have to be a corporate cuck or a wagie.i got passive income + the ability to create apps scripts or whatever the fuck I want to perform any task I want. It's a very valuable skill, especially in this age.
>>51025424All these tech companies can throw money around because of the low interest rates the last years. This came to an end, all those useless eaters will have a rude awakening. Essential jobs are stable in a recession, but people will vut netflix and airbnb, people will travel less, coorps will buy less ads on facebook and co. Damn i like it when all this tech nonsense will go down in flames.

>>51025424Wonder how much of it is stock value and actual cash
>>51026230At least 3/4 of it is in RSU funny money, guaranteed. Base pay doesn't increase much as you climb the ladder. You get paid in stocks to "encourage" you to care about the company's outcome even though you're just a cog in the giant conglomerate and have no means to sway any of its products or trajectory. It's all a scam.
>>51026015I live just outside LA and was easily living with my wife and kid paying for a 3 bedroom condo on only 60k a year. People who make 400k a year should be able to retire in 5 years.
how does this guy use the rsus(most od his comp) if hes job hopping every year?
>>51026404Exactly kek I see Mexicans raising entire families with shit jobs making 40k per year. They somehow buy brand new cars and houses and manage to pay them off while sending their kids to college.
>>51025424Hiw do you get your first job in this? I have a bs in physics with good grades.Plz respond
>>51025424would be interesting if people started to get judged on what have they done against the jews
he earns more per month then i do per year
If that's who I think it is he actually knows his shit about databases and writing efficient queries. So looking at the timeline is misleading. You'll have a hard time reaching his skill level in any time frame half-assing it like most people. Same way anyone can make it to senior dev but making it to tech lead you need to be on another level and actually know your shit.
it's a lot less impressive income when you think about what his income is after taxes, especially california income taxes + federal income tax. Unless he has some massive deductions he's not pulling in enough money to really live a luxurious life.
>>51025728>Capture d’écranbonjour mon ami
>>51027223You can get a first job by making a portfolio with 2-3 projects and applying for entry level full stack or frontend web dev positions. Don't expect it to be high-paying though. After like 2 years if you've spent the time learing about data structures and algos, design patterns, and basic system design you should be able to move to a significantly higher paying job.

>>51027603>Like run of the mill python projects I can pull off of Google? No, ideally it'd be websites for some community you're a part of not something copied from a tutorial. An example would be a website that lets you track stock and crypto pairs, if it passes a certain range you can use the twilio api to notify the user idk be creative. They probably wont even look at the code much, so make sure you make it presentable and add some level of polish to it.>Should I throw in a C, C++, Java, or html or something?Needs to be something for web that you can show a live version of (link it in the repo and in your resume btw). They're not gonna spend time downloading an app, or cloning a repo and figuring out how to test it out.>>51027711Worked for me, I speak from experience.
>>51027197I remember someone on /biz/ posting a long list of government handouts that single mothers could claim, which would bring a woman on a $40k salary up to around $70-80k, with the $30-40k from the government being tax free. Obviously a lot of people abuse this by breaking up on paper but continuing to live together so that they can boost their income by 30-40k
>>51025424I did. But contrary to what you believe as a non-software engineer, software engineers rarely do default codemonkey shit. That's what the Indians do.
>>51027652i dont frequent your brown nigger filth watering holes, repulsive low IQ mutt retard.
>>51027775That sounds like it would be easy to root out especially with the new IRS agents. Obviously you'd both have the same home address.
>>51027792People who abuse it obviously set the mans home address at his parents house. Hopefully the IRS starts staking out houses where single mothers are cashing in to see if baby daddy comes and goes every day. The system is rife with abuse
the only thing that matters in life is being in the top 1% of everything. In California to be in the top 1% of income, you have to make $745,314 a year, this guy is not even 1% despite all his effort.
>>51027659I went to a bullshit coding bootcamp older than you and my first job was 100k. Time to get your shit together.
>>51025424Only in burgerlandHere in 3rd worldsville, even the $80k step is impossible. And moving to the US isn't practical either. Not only do you have to leave your family behind, but the rates for H1B coders are significantly lower, since the employers know that they're still paying you better than what you'd get locally, defeating the purpose anyway.
>>51025424Programming is something you learn if you have an idea that hasn't been implemented. You do well if you work for yourself only. $300k per year is okay but a lot of these software platforms you work on are worth billions or hundeds of millions. That is cucked.
>>51027972This. I did my comp sci degree but never had any ideas to build a portfolio. I spent more of my free time learning to trade because I actually loved it and ended up making that a career.
>>51025424My Econ program was very data science heavy. Took upper division probability and statistics courses, had to use matlab and python in all my Econ labs. I wanted to work in finance but should I consider data science?
>>51028157Finance is twice the work for the same pay. With the tech bubble deflating and VC money drying up the easy days might be over though, so it's a gamble
>>51027769So build a website with some bells and whistles. Is that what you're suggesting? Because that's pretty much what I wanted to do anyway
>>51028203Yep exactly. I went with a content aggregation site that scraped info from a ton of different sources and made it searchable. For the interview questions I got asked about how I designed the database to make the search fast with the amount of data I had, how I chose my tech stack, whether I knew about the CAP theorem, etc.
I'm getting an associate in computer programming then doing a coding Bootcamp then getting my bachelor's. What am I in for?
>>51028294So expect to be questioned about your website. Which is part of the reason why you don't follow a tutorial. Along with the fact that they've probably seen the project before.
>>51028302I'm on the same boat, but doing a self paced online bootcamp and the associates at the same time.I don't think programming is easy, even webdev monkey shit, most people fail in bootcamps and even in associate degrees with basic programming and databases. just remember that you need to practice and study, it's the same as anything else, nothing comes "natural" unless you're a genius
>>51027828they do this in the UK, i have two friends that live with their girlfriends and have kids but have their official addresses listed with their parents so the mother can claim benefits, it's easy and it's common. here the government runs adverts encouraging people to rat out their neighbours if they suspect they are living together when they claim not to, you even get a cash reward for successfully ratting them out

The whole political situation just disgusts me. Outside of foreign policy, there are real objective things we can do to benefit the population just in regards to road construction and what kind of tax breaks to offer to which kinds of developers. Simple shit. But none of it matters because it's a personality contest down to the smallest office. And good luck getting a job in city government if you are a white male and live in any decent sized American city (because cities are filled with niggers and they are hired preferentially). I even thought that understanding how nation states operate and how groups of people interact with other groups of people could be useful to corporations especially large international businesses, but no. I could go back to school and get a law degree and work 60-70 hours a week for more money, but unless I was in a specific field I enjoyed it would just be another form of drudgery. I'm currently planning to start my own high ROI clothing business and then if it takes off try to transition to that full time. I think I've finally identified a good niche that I could market products to. Or maybe my crypto will take off before then and I'll be able to be comfy for a change
>>51025424If this guy wants to make it less "taboo" he should breakdown his comp structure further into salary vs bonus vs rsu. You can learn how to code on the semillalabs developer discord- link on their twitter page. They also have classes that pay you in crypto when you complete them. Once you learn to code, you can join a project in their incubator channel.
what are some dipshit positions i can do in that field even as a noob?my cousin did some cert or class where she is going to make 80K a year starting in the medical field and its an easy as fuck job. in the software dev field is there something that over pays for even low skilled and new people?
>>51025424Because most positions aren't gonna get filled with Americans/Europeans. They wanna mostly use cheap labor.I work for a Major bank in what I guess I would say as an IT Project Manager. There is no coding involved on my end but it happens for what we support.Literally all of our clients and the 3rd parties that they use are Poos for their coding/certification/development/production etc instead of and they are FUCKING awful. We literally have to meet with one client like 6 times a week on Zoom because of we have to spend 2 hours (2 meetings) a week walking the 3rd party coders through their issues and and now we have to spend another 2 extra meetings with the client to get through these issue on top of the regular Internal & external meetings we have....and this is JUST 1 client out of a ton we gotta do shit like this for.I would gladly work with overpaid/junior/rookie American or European developers at this point.Honestly thinking of learning to code despite not needing to just help my Tech Analysts get shit done and then after getting my PMP, switching to a more Tech role.

I did at a rudementry level but I didn't go full computer science and honistly I don't have the attention span to grind away and get super duper good at it. Unless you luck out with a independent project, low level coding/programing pays worse then retail. You ether have to go full on into a high level specialty in software engineering and the like with full certs, or work massive amounts just grinding away to make a living.I realize where my strangths and weaknesses are and that I don't have what it takes to get good at CS. I can't sit still that fucking long man. Not without a lot of drugs and being miserable the full time.
That's what I tell myself is the reason
550k for a “software engineer” at fucking Netflix? What is there even to do all day? I press a button, it loads my video. The tech is already there. Wtf do they even work on?
>>51050585That is interesting anon. WHat do you mean by low level coding? What kind? And what kind of pay can be expected for something like that? More than 50 hours a week?
>>51046236>I rather do plumbing then ... dealing with retardsI'm sure you and your clients are way smarter than the people paying coders to make apps...
>>51050959>WHat do you mean by low level coding? As in code monkey/lego code type stuff. Basic proficient in using a few programing languages but not to the technical or knowledge level of a full on software engineer. Basically it's the level of programing that is super ease to outsource to people willing to work for FAR below minimal wage. You aren't just up against with local talent, you are competing with the whole world, and people in developing nations can under bid for the same low level quality of work. So it really doesn't pay to be a codemonkey unless you have massive output with super low expenses. Just being able to code isn't enough. You have to be able to do more, such as be a full professional in IT and be a full engineer to make decent money. All that said, I can't do it. I can't sit at a computer fully focused looking at code 12 hours a day every day. Shit, I can't even funpost on here without taking breaks to walk around and do other stuff.
I'm going to take an extra year at college to switch from Chemistry (lab monkey) to Computer Science (code monkey).
>>51051213I see, thanks for the insight. What do you think of this curriculum? https://teachyourselfcs.com/I am currently engaged in self study, doing exactly that sort of low level novice programming practice that conforms with your description of a code monkey. Once I have enough aptitude in the basics I intend to focus more fully on learning computer science properly. I just really don't like structured learning in universities and find self study to be most effective.
>>51052250>What do you think of this curriculum?Would take a lot of self discipline and determination to get through, and I am concerned that it on it's own doesn't prepare you for certification exams, but yeah if someone did the course I think they would have a solid understanding with a lot of practical skills. You will need certifications to actually get hired. So in addition to that course I would recommend looking up study material for the reverent certs you need for the jobs you are interested in and saving up for the exams or looking up if you qualify for fee wavers. I would also be sure to have projects of your own on the side just to keep you in practice and push you to keep developing your skills. That said, I am obviously no longer in the tech industry so take what I say with a grain of salt. /g/ would probably be best to ask for more detail of what it takes to make it in the industry as it currently is.
I found my first software dev job 2 1/2 years ago and it's paying me around $88k including bonuses. Is it time to search around for something higher paying? This job lets me WFH and I don't want to let that go though.
>>51048855>Man all them Cats work remote now! They ain't gots to live in those places. What remains is that many-perhaps even MOST-people in the big tech lifestyle WANT to live in LA/NYC/SF/Seattle/etc, even when This is for a variety of reasons:1. friends or family are there (they aren't all incels looking to live innawoods)2. their ethinic/cultural community has more support there3. more intelligent neighbors, more successful neighbors that can share expensive hobbies with youThat's just off the top of my head. >>51053415P.S. I don't understand all the cope in this thread about coding itself though. You need to learn to code no matter what. Not a lot of ways to start a profitable side hustle without initial $ backing.Coding opens a lot of doors in that regard.
