Why don't people just build their own homes instead of buying one for 800k

Because it would be condemned. You need permission from the government to build stuff on your property nowadays.

pretty much this. also the lots where you're able to build are slam in suburbia and have to abide HOA bullshit

This home would cost 1.76 million to build at a price/sqft of $243 (what I just recently quoted from local builders).
I'd say they don't build because it's cheaper to buy in almost all cases. Unless you're trying to buy in a beehive-type big city with retarded population density and over-priced everything.

Zoning laws here in burgerland basically say the government or high class men with connections own the land and no one else

Not allowed. Well I mean unless you are qualified to do everything. It’s cheaper buying a house than getting legally robbed by engineers and builders who will drag the job out for 2 years and suck every cent out that they can. Most people I know are in share houses or live the van life or something. Only one friend I know who rents their own place is married and both have decent jobs. In the city is around $800 usd a week, outside the city around 500usd a week and a few hours drive from a city is around $300 usd a week for an ex-crack den

You can do this in rural areas

>Very rural Oklahoma
>No building code
>Minimal permitting (I only needed septic permit to hook up to public water utilities)
>Hire metal building fab and erection contractor
>Build big ass metal shop building
>Partition off area for apartment and frame it up & build it out
>About $130k spent, 3600sqft building
>800sqft ground floor apartment, 1600sqft shop floor/garage, 1280sqft 2nd floor to expand up when I need it/can afford it

Urbanfags basically aren't allowed to own property like >>51019438 said

>> No.51019547

>>51019274
>buy vacant lot for $700k
>spend another $100k on construction
Brilliant idea anon.
