Is getting an entry level software engineer job for $80k / year unreasonable with a degree?

No, that's pretty average. I started at $70k without a degree in compsi - had a degree in cheme though. Three years later and I'm at $77k. Recruiters contacting me on linkedin were offering $90-100k, and ~$80-90k seems to be average for any entry level position outside of FAGMAN tier companies.
