I am fully behind moass and hope it will give me life changing money.
But even so I think people overhype the dividend split "fraud".
It was to make the stock more attractive, to push DRS and to be
sure that even in the case of government fuckery people will
get as much as possible. There are currently stocks that have 1 share at 450,000 USD.
If GME we reached this now it would
be the equivalent of 1,8 million pre split. And I kinda think there is another 1:3 split coming.
So back to the dividend split. Essentially the only people who own shares are people who DRSed and the DTC.
Everything after the DTC is only ledger to ledger. EVERYTHING. No one get "deposited shares" the shares lay with the DTC.
They are the only ones, aside from DRSed people, who got 3 additional shares.
Now since everything downstream is only ledger to ledger there is literally no difference for brokers and banks. Even
if you or the brokers buy or sell shares it's just the ledgers that update a balance. Same with the split. Yes the DTC got shares
and (assuming no other fraud) put those shares into the respective repos of brokers and then told brokers they can now show x4
on their ledgers so that both ledgers are equal.
Having said that, I totally expect the DTC to have somehow embezzled the divi shares,
but harassing the downstream brokers who just adjust their ledger to the DTC ledger is dumb.
I do admit that one positive aspect of this could be that the brokers get wet feet and demand proof
from the DTC that the shares in the brokers depots are indeed real and not just on paper.
