That is a comfy amount. I only have 200+ shares DRS'd and I am now having some cognitive dissonance here. I frequently advocate that everyone hedge GME with precious metals. But with GME nearing the equivalent of $180 per share, and with silver so low, I am not sure where to be dumping my capital.
I believe 100% in GME, but sometimes it truly does feel like a dangerous " all or nothing" situation where it is going to be so massive of a squeeze that shit just plain fucks up and we all end up with nothing. I think I understand the “if brokers rug their is no moass” line of shilling now. They are setting the board early. Borrowing shares is to resolve FTDs, the weird thing is when they return the shares as soon as they borrow them. It hints that they only need to flash a share in front of a broker to resolve the FTD but don't actually need to deliver anything. They're not going to delete broker positions, they'll force close them. To close a short position you need to locate a real share to give back, the entangling of IOUs is just the first step. You can't close a short with an IOU.

1) The only way of actually owning shares is to DRS in your name.

2) Some brokers will 100% rug. This doesn't even touch on synthetics FUD. Your account just never had shares, no IOUs to DTCC, nothing. You think you had shares but all you had was a CFD IOU to your broker. If you're on fidelity its low risk of happening, if you're on Etoro / any e-broker like T212 or degiro or anyhting eurobros use / you are 100% getting rugged. If you can"t DRS from your broker, you 100% dont have even synthetics.

3) Every synthetic is created by <100% shorting. Under 100% float, the reasonable possibility of locating shares stand, and thus naked shorting does not create synthetic. Once every share is shorted, it is no longer possible to locate a share, and thus we go over 100%. If synthetic IOUs are force closed by brokers saving their asses, it will bring us back to 100%, and now 100% of the DRS'ed real shares still need to be bought back.
