Their house is literally worth half a million…

I’m still in early career renting with 3 guys and they want that money now. They wont listen to reason and it sucks.

Could be worse. My parents sold my grandfather's company. The company I'm running. Fucking pieces of shit. They didn't even talk to me they just straight up sold it and for cheap to. The company is worth 12 million after I, with great effort, expanded it. I turned a red business into a growing one and they fucking sold it for 2 fucking million. The new owner offered me a job as the director but I told him to go fuck himself and left. Parents toured the world with that money and visited every casino. Im not sure how much they have left but they have been trying to contact me so I assume they lost it all. I took my savings and left the state and am just wageslaving now as a mid level executive.

Honestly if you're in that position then you couldn't afford the property taxes anyways. You'd be better served by selling the property and buying a smaller house. Of course, your parents are selfish cunts, but what else is new?

my brother in law was raised by his grandparents because his mom is a deadbeat and his dad was never in the picture. his grandparents sold their family business and own hundreds of acres and multiple homes.

my brother in law's 50 something year old mom has never worked a day in her life and was given a house and a new car every few years by her father (my BIL's grandfather.) my brother in law was given the opportunity to BUY one of his grandfather's homes for $300k, which is a lot of money in a flyover area. in reality the house is worth maybe $200k because it hasn't been renovated since it was built in the 1980s. essentially he's jewing his own grandson like a typical boomer.

the really funny part is this $300k house is next door to his deadbeat mom who was GIVEN a house for free. they even share the same well and septic system, which was a major pain in the ass when my brother in law had to get a mortgage.

boomers really are fucked up.

Wow.
Sorry for your loss.

Your parents feared wealth and consciously destroyed it to return to their known level of comfort.
There should be a lesson for you in this.
The mistake you made was to overwork for a company you had no stake in.
You should have asked your parents to give you a % of ownership or a contract that they would give it to you and not sell it before you decided to work in it.

Interestingly this seems to follow the cycle of wealth and bust through 3 generations with an interesting twist.
Instead of the parents stabilizing the business and growing it to the final stage and their children spending it all, the opposite happened. I am curious as to what caused this inversion of roles.

But if you managed to make such a great contribution to a company you have what it takes to start one from scratch or to take over a company having problems to make it profitable.
Or are you planning to retire with crypto by investing your current funds?
You deserve it after the work you put into it, and the spiritual world will try to bring back balance to your life.

My goal now basically. Am already living okay with my current salary but I guess more couldn't hurt. Actually like my new job but its just not the same.

Fucking boomers
>Buy most expensive house they can afford
>Put everything into house
>Neglect investments their whole life as a result
>Have massive house that is too big to properly maintain as retired people
>Want a taste of the good life
>Take out massively disadvantaged equity loans into their property.
I'm all for living your life, but one of my goals for investing is to build generational wealth. People like your parents are very short sighted and a bit selfish.

Surely selling the property, then downsizing and realising said equity would be a much better shout. Fuck me Aon.

If it makes you feel better, my dad left me nothing in his will. He gave it all to his kids from wife no.2.

Boomers were told by their parents who returned from ww2 that they were the most valuable, special snowflake asset in existence which created conditions for them so good as no other generation in history or since has experienced such a golden age that catered to them. There was a shortage of people thus it meant that:
>There was massive demand for their labor.
Thus they got massive returns for any work they did. The average 14 year doing unskilled labor had the same purchasing power (when compared hour vs hour) as a junior doctor has today.
>They had access to an education system that was cheap compared to today's
The west was desperate to replace the skills it lost. Educational institutions acted like schools instead of businesses as if they didn't fill that role the country collapsed. The 3rd world didn't have any sort of education system so they couldn't just import skills like they can today. Talent needed to be homegrown
>Technological improvements at a pace never seen before
There was a massive boom in technological improvements post ww2. The west (America) was almost unrecognizable in the 60's compared to 30 years earlier. Not only did this lead to an insane rise of the quality of life in a tiny period of time this also meant there was a massive increase in size of multiple sectors which competed for the same small pool of labor and there was a glut of production. This meant that you had massive choice over where you wanted to work (geographically) and what you did and companies were sucking your dick to keep you where you were offering promotion after promotion for any sort of competence. You could walk out of 1 job at 9am and be working somewhere else, with a promotion by 12pm.
These factors combined meant the boomers had a life where they were treated as demi-gods and this has pushed into their mind that they are better than everyone else & their kids are lazy because they don't have the same level of wealth as they did.

I wasn't close to my grandfather because he was always busy. As his health declined so too did the company since he wasn't around to manage it. He died and the company passed on to my grandmother who was also already quite ill at the time. She died without a will and everything went to my mother who is their only child. She didn't run it because she doesn't care and was going to sell it. Father didn't care either. I volunteered and said I would run it and to not sell the company. It was a small company with 30+ employees when I took control of it as the CEO. I had full control over the company so I was able to expand it. It went from being a simple cardboard box manufacturer into a company that made just about anything that has to do with paper like packaging for drinks, envelopes and a bunch of others. Had 3 sites and 140 employees. Got bought by a larger company who was getting rid of local competition.
