This is factually incorrect. If the brokers rug the public finds out this was real all along. i think it's important to flesh this out. Most likely, the brokers would turn in unison on the dtcc and make some sort of statement how they were instructed to dilute GME by the DTCC. They will say they had no idea the guidance from DTCC was wrong, and they will pin the blame on them. The lawsuits will take years. The people with large CS positions will be watching from the sidelines at their beach front houses. You have to realize when you have a crime and problem so big that it simply isn't rectifiable, everyone is gonna just do the spidey to everyone else, and let lawyers work it out.

Fair, but I think the list is shorter than most think for those who didn't buy the shares. After all, if you sent the orders in and wrote them on your books but the DTCC itself didn't deliver then the DTCC itself is on the hook. Which is something I didn't get about people going "oh, the brokers are on hook for the dividends." If they put the request in, received confirmation of the request, wrote it in their books, then you got the divvy and it is held in the depository. If the depository doesn't have the shares then it is not the broker on the hook but the depository, and more likely than not the DTCC will claim MM's under them messed up since the errors at the end of the day would be on THEIR books, aka Citadel's and such. Which then responsibility is kicked up back to the DTCC who will get the Fed's help.

Brokers are literally in no danger so long as they wrote the proper requests and kept the proper books. Which is basically all of them except RH.
