Same reason you have to pay taxes on a used item you buy at the flea market. It's dumb, but there's really no good argument for why sales tax shouldn't be collected for online sales if you're going to be collecting it for B&M as well. I just better not hear any states complaining about lack of revenue anymore, as they're raking it in now.
