Dividend issued split the actual "splitting" is handled by the company and any remainders to be issued to broker-held shares are given to the DTCC after the transfer agency for the company gets the ones they need for direct registered shares. It's really not that hard to understand. The company created three shares for every one in existence, gave them all to their transfer agent to distribute to people that are direct registered, that company gave the rest to the DTCC to distribute to brokers. On the investor end it's about the same as a stock split just issued in the form of a dividend. The way it's been handled and distributed has been fucky to say the least as brokers were informed to handle it as if it were a regular stock split and split the shares themselves, when that is erroneous and not at all what the company intended or filed to make happen.

But MOASS is kinda pointless if you have shares in a broker. The money you would get from selling your GME shares would be immediately confiscated and used to pay for another GME share. If MOASS happens, it would just be a banking apocalypse and money would be pointless anyways.
What WIlLL happen is an actual cost of GME based on demand - which will be way higher. GME will likely go pretty high as a couple of brokers tried to resist defaulting.
