when i was inclined to do a bunch of options trading, yes. not anymore.
i would sell a call spread after a spike. i think it's the only smart way to trade it. as long as your strike is far enough out, you're likely going to come out on top. any time you're wrong you have a spread to protect you from a huge loss, and you can always roll again if you are sizing each position correctly.
smarter people than me can explain it in technical terms, but the important thing to know is there's "extra" decay in it because of how it's structured. you could in theory systematically open a spread every week and be on the right side of the trade for more calendar days of the year than not, which should (again, in theory) overcome the standard 70-30 outcome distribution in options.
i was content to just wait for a spike in its price way outside some indicator and then take a trade from there. why not anymore? i hate the fucking paperwork. very tired of options in general.
