I could tell he did not know the ends and out of the job I was applying for but he had spent some time understanding what the department wanted and was filtering out obviously under qualified candidates.

Not really. I simply recognize that even the most demoralized wagie can't go 100% all of the time. I may be a bastard but even I know people aren't machines. Besides we have a natural flow to the day. Mornings are balls to the wall. Several part time staff then leave when the busy period ends.
