Oh, and another thing to point out is that when you get older you simply can't keep doing shit the same way as before - the best adventures of my life were all done on a shoestring budget when young, sleeping rough and hitchiking, or cycle-camping, some shit like that. Spending almost no money and having a great time.

But there comes a point when you actually need a proper bed, and a quiet place to stay, and you have to grow up in all kinds of other ways as well, and then you need to start spending a bit more and not being a cheapskate. I ski a lot as well and used to try to save money on absolutely everything - staying in a shitty room in a shitty location where you get woken up all the time, take ages to get onto the snow each day, carry around a packed lunch to avoid lunch time restaurants, hire the shittiest gear, fly at horrible times of day and get the cheapest, shittiest coach transfers.

It can work and be OK if you know no better, but once you've tried:

nigger my nw is $3.2M which is make-it town for me, I am retired, paid my house in cash and the rest is split 20/70/10 into crypto/vtsax/cash. That's what I 'spend' my money on, investing it in instruments that will beat inflation in the long and allow me to keep withdrawing 2-3% annually indefinitely to live my life in a state of moderate comfort and pursue hobbies and interests I find interesting and hang out with friends who share those hobbies and interests. It's a great life and I sincerely pity anyone who at any net worth thinks blowing $80k on an ibizan misadventure surrounded by shallow, subsidized hangers-on constitutes a productive allocation of capital.
