Those aren't the same thing. First and foremost that the former is easy(er) to predict, goes through cycles, and moves at a slow pace. The latter can change virtually overnight and cause behaviors that exacerbate the issues actually affecting the economy.
There was a partial decoupling of the economy from the stock market that was just made so much worse during the 2010s.

Colorado School of mines actually focused their curriculum around teaching students cobol.
It has given them one of the highest average pays in CS for new grads…
They saw an opportunity (boomers dying off/retiring and leaving behind legacy codebases in cobol) and basically have somewhat cornered the market on that
However, if you’re just looking to learn funky new languages I’d absolutely go for Haskell, OCaml, lisp, Coq
