I ran over a rabbits legs once. It was still alive but it wasn't going to make it so I took an empty 5 gallon water jug and swung it at it's head to put it out of it's misery. It was really tough for me to do that but I didn't want to see it suffer :(

I think you did the right thing. I ran over a squirrel once on my mountain bike. It was an awful experience, but I did the right thing and cleared it from the trail. It's little body was warm and limp, I still remember the sound it made when I hit it. Who am I to take the life of small creatures? I considered suicide, also other things the universe was giving me were a factor. I think I'm more in tune now. Not really sure.
