I've been thinking of writing an article about how metaverses aren't going to be very profitable. Second Life was a perfect example as there had been repeated attempts by academia and business to use the game to do *something* and outside of advertising they never really came up with anything. The advertising did not have wide exposure either

what do you realistically think the draw of a metaverse is? What do you envision people coming to do there and how would your land be profitable as a result of that?
Second Life had sex and a good and user-friendly but in depth building system. The only people making money were those selling in-game products, and they could make decent money, and some people renting out land they owned. If you want to potentially make money off of metaverse stuff I'd recommend you do some research about Second Life, There (sort of similar but a failed competitor), and Eve (not a metaverse but a game a lot of money has passed through)

well that's the case with any high risk-high reward investment
however with a metaverse we already have a prototype to study and that's Second Life which has been around for nearly twenty years and was the most successful in the "metaverse" genre. It even has a currency
I don't see it as being that profitable unless you understand what you are appealing to, which is relatively niche sexual fetishists and roleplayers. I think there may be more interest early on when the metaverse projects first emerge and then everyone will just realize they're at best a new second life and only the weirdos will stick around. Usually what these games do is have early events where the items are free but as time goes on they've become truly rare. Think like runescape and the party hats. But I've played games where it's all social and people deck out their rooms and invite all their friends, etc. I would just be looking to invest in a world I think is really cool, unique, and is growing at least somewhat. The "land" part of it right now is stupid because no utility is attached other than virtual proximity to other land, if your land is close to an actual interesting part of the map, or celebrity land, its percieved to be more valuable, however, this will be be phased out once these maps populate and the need to optimize these maps lead to innovations where only populated land loads to limit vast nothingness or inactivity between interesting and active features, then doesnt matter where your land is, but whats on it, and here is where people say "put a giant billboard and get paid to put ads there!" but thats thinking real world in the VR world.

There was a game called Euphoria, and a guy bought a piece of virtual land on it in 2008? and he bought it for $27,000 because unique in game creatures spawned on his land and he would charge people to hunt there, generating 100K a month from players paying to go there. THATS what metaverse land should do for you, generate cash flow from the "resources" on the land that others in that universe want. Until I see a system like that, I would not buy land.

As the metaverse is still developing, please be patient. You'll be fine if you just wait for these tech behemoths to join. In order to add security, LOX has announced its involvement.

One of the main points of the metaverse is that resources like land are unlimited. Anyone can make what they want. If we instead make it like real life where only the elite can afford land because it's scarce, and others have to toil to get by, what's the point? That's a dystopia. The metaverses that will win is the ones that doesn't lean into the metaverse-economy potential.
