So the split works in the form of a dividend. Everyone who held the stock yesterday will get their 3 extra shares per share as dividend. Any idea what happens to the shares that are traded till Thursday? From my understanding those shares are not eligable for the dividend so is the buyer not getting the 3 extra shares and therefore his share loses 75% of its value when everyone else gets their extra shares?

A key component of this play is the fractional reserve nature of naked shares and USD. They aren't real. The only thing that is real is a GME share, be it an obligation within a broker or a DRS'd share in CS.
The price is not real. The price you see on an exchange is the happy medium that prevents buying pressure and margin calls while ballancing their obligations.
The split puts massive pressure on the shorts by essentially causing a 400% increase in their obligations relative fractional reserve share / real share.
