Spacex is not a publicly listed company so you can't "all in" to them.

Have fun being retarded. If you really think launching 42k satellites into orbit and selling dishes to connect at a loss is feasible, well i guess you probably held Tesla too and lost all your profits lmao

Did he upgrade from dial up? Even cable Internet is faster than that in most places

He probably lives too far out in the boonies for cable.
For satellite internet Starlink is basically unbeatable when compared to its direct competitors.

>> No.50428110

>>50427968
main advantage is the "no data limits"
satellite internet has been around for decades, but it's some cucked "you can only send so many GB per month"

>> No.50428111

>>50427910
They are LEO satellites, and the difference in altitude between LEO and geosynchronous is ridiculous. Theoretically you could have lower ping across starlink than through surface fiber when communicating over a long distance, like NA to Europe, because the speed of light in a vacuum is faster than through glass.

>> No.50428158

>>50428110
data limits yeah, but latency is the real killer if you wanna do anything besides email and web browsing.

I got it as a gift for my parents recently
their internet was DSL, essentially just fancy dial-up, their speed jump was similar. something like 35x
shit works decent enough, though the wait of a year was fairly retarded

>> No.50428256

>>50428111
neat. that should help a lot for VoIP/Video calls and shit like game streaming in some locations right?

>> No.50428299

>>50428256
Yep. Only problem with starlink is that the base station is fucking expensive, breaks easily, uses a ton of power, and can't be moved from the install site even though there's no technical reason to limit relocation. Also it's still satellite. Bad weather will fuck your bandwidth.

nah i've been paying the subs
it'd be a shitty gift if i saddled them with costs
add in they were paying $35 for that shit DSL internet as is, so a 40x increase in speed with a 3x increase in price is a decent tradeoff

I picked up Starlink because it was either Hughes and their data capped satellite internet or a local company that used a pointed dish towards the nearest city. They provided 25 Mbps with no caps for $100 but evening hours provided garbage reception. Bought Starlink when it became available in the area (luckily no wait) and for then $100 (now $110) I have 125+ Mbps living rurally.

I don’t want to go back to garbage internet.
