Pennies are 95% Copper from 1982 and earlier. There are some Zinc 1982 cents, but you can sort them out pretty easily given that they should weigh less.

Living in Germany, most of the silver I can find in the wild is from the Dritte Reich. I don't even try to find them, but that's what's around. When I do find regular Konigreich Mark, silver Deutsche Mark, or new silver commemorative Euros, I buy them just to pad my collection so my wife's mom doesn't think I'm intentionally trying to horde 3rd Reich stuff.

It's really bizarre and I wonder why it's the case. Money is about being able to transact with others for the goods you need/want. It's supposed to be a valuable asset, not a liability/debt unit. Banks have distorted money and treat it more like a switch board with buttons and levers and bells and whistles so they can manipulate the economy as a whole. It's a grand, failed experiment. One thing about coinage, is that after a paper currency dies, coinage is too expensive to create a new version so it often just transfers over to whatever replaces it. And as inflation rages, the legality of melting down pennies will change LONG before you can ever melt down nickels.

Before the pandemic, you could get ASEs or Maples at <10% premium. Now they're 80% premium. That's too high. Even in 2021 you could get 10oz silver bars for 8% premium now it's 20%+. That's too high.

Charged at the hotel overnight, came back same routine. Total cost: $14. He charges at home, sees his home electric go up $30/month.
