Probably has no little impact XRT but XRT short interest would go down if it does impact it. If you assume XRT is being shorted to get at individual stocks, then this bypasses the need for XRT entirely or makes a nice supplement in addition to XRT. This allows them to push the shorting further, they have a new source for shares that can go well beyond 100% SI because it's an ETF and can be significantly over-borrowed. They can also alternatively borrow from the individual stock ETFs to satisfy the borrowed XRT shares that they had picked apart earlier via institutional shorting (it's an etf mechanism, creation/redemption). An AP institutionally shorting is first given the shares inside the basket by the ETF through a process called creation by borrowing against the ETF itself, these come from nowhere, they are additional unbacked shares and are naked short positions even if technically they were located and borrowed from the ETF. The AP must later return the basket with all the stocks in it and the individual stocks are then redeemed back into the borrowed ETF shares to cancel out the short. They basically borrow against the ETF to temporarily create a packet of shares which contains all of the stocks contained by the ETF, if you reduce an ETF down to just one stock, then this is just a way to legally naked short one stock more.

There is literally no poont to DRS. There is no disctinction between a DRS'd share and a broker share. For MOASS to be true, broker shares would also need to be counted as real otherwise they would be simply wiped out. Ever since the DRS campign the price has literally only dropped.
