I don't necessarily believe stock prices should grow forever. Being hell bent on infinite economic growth is what leads to brilliant ideas like importing hordes of refugees and other migrants. Take a country like Japan, for example; very low crime, very good country by almost every metric, etc. Their stock market has not grown much, but I think it would be perfectly acceptable for Japan to stay as it is forever, GDP-wise, and their public companies can just pay out dividends instead of aiming for stock price growth.
