This week my company let go of a bunch of pr people, reducing offices spaces across a few states and made everyone in my team official perm wfh. They asked us to come back with a deadline twice since COVID ended and no one showed up. No one cared, our boss and his bosses never cared since our metrics showed no change in performance and nothing happened to us. Many companies are adapting to wfh/hybrid.you younger guys and everyone unemployed will be able to find a nice gig with enough time and patience

>> No.50316597

I think the reasons provided are total bullshit but to me if you're new to the workforce, WFH is going to hamper growth. I learned a ton by interacting with the senior engineers before the pandemic. Now that I'm one of those engineers, the questions juniors have is a lot more difficult to answer since I can't show them through a Teams call. If I can, it'll take exponentially longer then just dragging them over to my workstation or the server room and showing them.

I used to get trapped in the office kitchen way after lunch break on a regular basis by the office manager at my job before the coof. She thought we were friends and she would chat with me about inane shit like movies and fashion and celebs. It was horrible. I lost hours of time a week to that shit and nobody really cared since nobody does any real work in an office anyway, they just have meetings all day. we're in a bit of a bind here because obviously nobody wants to work when they can do it from home - this is obvious
what's slightly less obvious is any startup who can avoid an office will now do so to cut costs and any business who can leave their office without powerful managers (who need you in an office for their vampiric energy draining to work) will be financially motivated to leave their office
what the market hasn't quite priced in is the absolute decimation of commercial real estate demand in the biggest housing bubble of all time leading to an "unforeseen" event in which people simply band together and live in offices because it's cheaper, until zoning catches up or housing implodes

This. A degree of working onsite/office makes things a lot easier when you can just shout over to someone 2 seats away for something whereas they might not reply on Teams until they feel like it. Way more productive in the office as well since you get given more tasks and get to chat with the team about funny stuff, but on those 2-3 wfh days I just wank and do nothing until someone pings me and even then, that task will be done within an hour anyway.
Full wfh would turn me into an absolute schizo who'd never leave the house and die of a heart attack after all so it's also a free excuse for exercise

This is beyond out of touch. Small business boomer faggots might complain about this but major corporate industry benefits immensely from wfh. Most corporate industries that had a large amount of office workers move to wfh during COVID and after showed reduced costs related to maintaining office space. So much so that major industries in America have rescinded or nonrenewed commercial leases. Corporate headquarters which purchased or built their own office space suffered slightly but this is an increasingly outdated business model that will eventually likely phase out.
