Nobody is talking about due bills. Read about this. For the days between the record date and delivery date for the dividend, every share traded will generate an associated "due bill" which carries the obligation to deliver 3 additional shares once the seller receives them from the dividend. IMO this will make it extremely difficult if not impossible for hfs to control. If every share traded (reportable) comes with a due bill attatched, that is a shitload of shares that will have to be delivered after the delivery date of the stock dividend. Associated due bills require delivery or will generate FTDs and cannot be cash settled in the same way a cash dividend could be. I anticipate this will result in a buildup of FTDs, hitting regsho, and within 1-2 months (likely 2 weeks due to regsho closeout) force closure and buy-ins due to lack of capital to warehouse that many FTDs and inability to net against such a large obligation. what do i know tho just speculation

Everything is netted in the CNS system. read about this on the dtcc website. there is no such thing as "restricted shares". yes brokers aren't allowed to lend shares in cash and other accounts wihtout permission but share lending doesn't happen on the individual account level - obligations are netted at the overall institutional level. Again this is why i say it is fucked up cuz this shit is legal.
