10 years ago I got my first job out of college. A paltry 40k a year. KHV to boot.

Now I have two beautiful children (3 and 1 yo), the most loving wife and a good career in CS. Also a 20k LINK stack.

Yeah I've done well and am happy where I am but Jesus Christ have I made some fuckups the last 10 years and it's almost always from taking other peoples advice. People who give you advice are always doing so with themselves in mind. Very very rarely do you get someone looking out for your interests as the context for the advice they're giving you. I learned my family and friends basically have no god damn idea what the fuck they're talking about in regards to anything. The biggest thing I've learned is when everyone around me disagrees with what I'm doing and advises me against it then I'm probably headed down the correct path. Every good decision I've made that got me here has almost always been opposed by my family/friends.

Took me a long god damn time to man up and start making my own choices though.
